Ethio telecom, in partnership with Djibouti Telecom and Sudatel Group, has successfully hosted a high-level stakeholders' workshop to advance the pre-commercialisation phase of the Horizon Cross-Border Terrestrial Fiber Initiative. Formalized under a robust consortium framework, the secure corridor connects Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Sudan, offering global carriers and hyperscalers a highly reliable, low-latency alternative route for subsea cable traffic across the Red Sea.

Held in Addis Ababa, the workshop focused intensely on the commercial and technical requirements of the high-capacity terrestrial fiber corridor being developed across the region. Engineered with a fully protected, redundant architecture, the route seamlessly links cable landing stations in Djibouti and Port Sudan via Ethiopia, featuring expert network architecture insights from Ciena, Nokia, and BringCom.

The successful gathering convened leading global technology and connectivity organizations, including Google, Meta (via HIPConsult), Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Airtel Africa, Bayobab, WIOCC, Nokia, Ciena, center3, Saudi Vision, and China Mobile International. During these strategic sessions, participating partners and global operators expressed strong interest in leveraging and monetizing the multi-terabit capabilities of the Horizon Fiber corridor.

Jointly developed by the three telecom leaders, the Horizon initiative provides robust data transport, colocation, and hosting services with seamless landing access in Djibouti and Sudan. Designed for high-speed performance and resilience, Horizon empowers next-generation workloads like cloud computing, artificial intelligence, fintech, e-commerce, and digital content delivery.

Ultimately, this milestone showcases how pioneering African operators unite their infrastructure, expertise, and regional reach to shape a more interconnected and digitally empowered future for the continent.

በዕድሜያቸው 66 ዓመት የሆኑት ቄስ ሰይፉ፣ በትግራይ ክልል ደቡባዊ ዞን ሰለዋ ወረዳ ደጀን ቀበሌ ግራዛፎ መንደር ነዋሪ ሲሆኑ፣ በሰለዋ ከተማ በሚገኘው አንበሳ ባንክ የጥበቃ ሠራተኛ በመሆን እያገለገሉ ይገኛሉ።

ከዕለት ተዕለት የሥራ ኃላፊነታቸው ጎን ለጎን ትምህርታቸውን በትጋት በመከታተል ለፈተናው በመብቃት አመርቂ ውጤት አስመዝግበዋል።

በዘንድሮው የ12ኛ ክፍል ብሔራዊ ፈተና በክልሉ ፈተናውን ከወሰዱ 29 ሺህ ተፈታኞች መካከል አንዱ የሆኑት ቄስ ሰይፉ፣ ማለፊያ ውጤት ካመጡ 3,146 ተማሪዎች ውስጥ በመሰለፍ አርዓያነት ያለው ስኬት አስመዝግበዋል።

የእሳቸው አስደናቂ ታሪክ በማህበራዊ ሚዲያዎች ከፍተኛ ትኩረት ያገኘ ሲሆን፣ የሚሠሩበት ባንክም በስኬታቸው በመደሰት ልዩ ማበረታቻ አበርክቶላቸዋል።

Ethio telecom CEO and ZTE Senior Leadership Hold Strategic Discussions Enhancing Partnership to Accelerate Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation

Ethio telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru hosted a high-level delegation from ZTE Corporation, led by its Executive Vice President and COO, Mr. Xie Junshi. The meeting evaluated the successful progress of the landmark Network Expansion and Modernization Agreement finalized during the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona. This engagement underscores a shared vision for accelerating digital infrastructure under the company's Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy.

As part of the end-to-end network modernization in the ZTE circle, which encompasses 879 sites, 462 RAN modernization sites (which include LTE layering at 180 sites, LTE upgrading at 248 sites, and a full SWAP of 102 sites), 237 MW link upgrades, and 103 IP RAN site expansions were successfully completed. On top of this, the remaining scopes of the modernization program are under execution, which include 124 new sites, U2100 refarming at 272 sites, and 115 rural solution sites.

This rollout has significantly widened high-speed connectivity, pushing national 4G mobile population coverage to an impressive 92% in ZTE circle. These sites now serve as a robust digital backbone for the nation's evolving economy, enhancing connectivity for millions of citizens across Ethiopia.

Rural Connectivity: Empowering Communities and Bridging the Digital Divide!

Ethio telecom has successfully completed the first year of its Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy, marking significant progress in bridging Ethiopia’s digital divide. At the heart of this strategy is our commitment to inclusive, sustainable and transformative rural connectivity, ensuring that geography, distance and limited access to electricity do not prevent communities from participating in the digital economy.

During the fiscal year, we deployed 195 new rural mobile sites, reaching communities located, on average, 14.3 kilometres from the nearest town and 10.6 kilometres from the nearest existing mobile site. This demonstrates our deliberate focus on connecting Ethiopia’s most remote and underserved areas.

This expansion extended connectivity and digital access to 117 woredas and 492 kebeles and villages, enabling more than 1.53 million people to benefit from reliable communications, digital platforms and inclusive financial services.

To address power limitations in remote areas, we deployed 22 additional Rural Solution sites, specifically designed to serve communities with limited or no access to the national electricity grid. We also significantly expanded our green energy infrastructure, increasing installed solar power capacity from 27 MW to 39.72 MW, an additional 12.72 MW in just one year. This investment strengthens network resilience, reduces dependence on conventional energy sources and advances our environmental sustainability commitments.

Connectivity must also translate into meaningful access to essential services. Through our Rural Agent Project, we onboarded 812 new agents across 17 regions, achieving a 58% active-agent rate and bringing telebirr and other essential digital financial services closer to previously underserved communities. Going forward, we will focus on further improving agent activation, productivity and service availability.

We also advanced the fiberization of rural wireless sites, strengthening network capacity, reliability and service quality while preparing rural communities for growing digital demand.

As we successfully conclude Year One of our Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy, Ethio telecom continues to expand and modernize the critical digital infrastructure powering Ethiopia’s transformation.

During the year, we deployed 603 new mobile sites, expanding our nationwide footprint to 10,613 sites, while adding capacity for 10.2 million customers and scaling total mobile network capacity to 115.1 million. To strengthen network resilience, 44% of our sites are supported by backup generators, while 24% of off-grid sites are powered by solar energy.

We expanded 4G/LTE services to 264 additional towns, bringing the total to 1,200 towns and increasing 4G population coverage to 82.2%. Our 5G network now reaches 33 towns, including seven added during the year accelerating access to high-speed, next-generation digital services.

We also strengthened the high-capacity foundation of Ethiopia’s digital economy. Our national backbone fiber and OPGW network now spans 23,422 km, supported by 15,615 km of metro fiber. Total Optical Distribution Network capacity reached 1.46 million, comprising 708,992 greenfield capacity and 759,735 copper-switch-off capacity.

During the year, we migrated 100,000 customers from copper to fiber, helping the fixed-broadband customer base surpass the historic milestone of one million, of whom 443,298 are connected through fiber.

International gateway and local content-cache capacity increased by 1.8 Tbps to 4.3 Tbps, achieving 172% of the annual target. Expanded caching for leading global platforms, including Google, Meta, Netflix, TikTok and Cloudflare, is bringing content closer to users, improving speed and service experience while reducing international bandwidth dependency.

Together, these achievements reinforce Ethio telecom’s role as a principal architect and catalyst of Digital Ethiopia 2030 building a high-speed, resilient, inclusive and future-ready digital infrastructure that connects citizens, empowers businesses, modernizes institutions and unlocks new opportunities across Ethiopia.

ኢትዮጵያ ባለፉት ዓመታት ያከናወነቻቸው ግዙፍ የመሠረተ-ልማት ግንባታዎች የሀገር ውስጥ ምጣኔ-ሀብትን ከማሳደግ ባለፈ፣ የአፍሪካ ቀንድን የኢኮኖሚ ገጽታ እየቀየረ ይገኛል።

"ኢትዮጵያ ታከናውናለች" በሚለው ብሔራዊ ተስፋ እና በ"መደመር" እሳቤ የታገዘው ይህ ጉዞ፣ ሀገራችንን የምሥራቅ አፍሪካ ቀጣና ማዕከል ማድረጉን ቀጥሏል።

በተለይም ከቅርብ ዓመታት ወዲህ ኢትዮጵያ በመሠረተ-ልማት ረገድ ካስመዘገበቻቸው ስኬቶች የኢነርጂ ሉዓላዊነት እና የ"አረንጓዴ ወርቅ" ሽግግር ተጠቃሽ ነው።

ታላቁ የኢትዮጵያ ሕዳሴ ግድብ ግንባታ መጠናቀቁ እና በሙሉ አቅም ኃይል ማመንጨት መጀመሩ ለሀገር ውስጥ ኢንዱስትሪዎች አስተማማኝ ግብዓት ከመሆን ባለፈ፣ ለጎረቤት ሀገራት በተለይም ለሱዳን፣ ጅቡቲ እና ኬንያ የሚላከውን የኃይል መጠን አሳድጎታል።

ይህ ንፁህ ታዳሽ ኃይል ሀገራችንን ከካርቦን ሽያጭ የምታገኘውን ገቢ የሚያሳድግ እና የአየር ንብረት ለውጥን ለመከላከል የምታደርገውን የአረንጓዴ ዐሻራ ንቅናቄን በምጣኔ-ሀብት የሚያጠናክር ነው።

ሌላው የትራንስፖርት እና የኮሪደር ልማት ሥራዎች ሲሆኑ፣ በዚህም ከአዲስ አበባ - ጅቡቲ የባቡር መስመር ባሻገር፣ ኢትዮጵያን ከኬንያ በሞያሌ በኩል እና ከሌሎች ጎረቤቶች ጋር የሚያገናኙ ዘመናዊ አውራ ጎዳናዎች ተገንብተዋል። ይህም የኢትዮጵያን "ቅድሚያ ለጎረቤት" የዲፕሎማሲ ፖሊሲ በተግባር ያሳየ ነው።

የኮሪደር ልማት ፕሮጀክቶች በዋና ዋና ከተሞች በተለይም በአዲስ አበባ የተከናወኑት የኮሪደር ልማት ሥራዎች የከተማዋን ገጽታ ከመቀየር ባለፈ፣ የንግድ እንቅስቃሴን ያቃለሉ እና የከተማ ኑሮ ደረጃን ያሻሻሉ ናቸው።

ኢትዮጵያ በአቪዬሽን ዘርፍ ያከናወነቻቸው ተግባራት ለዘርፉ ስኬታማነት ትልቁን ሚና በመጫወት ላይ ይገኛሉ። በዚህም የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድ በአፍሪካ ቀዳሚነቱን ሚና በመያዝ በሀገር ውስጥ የአውሮፕላን ማረፊያ መመሠረተ-ልማቶችን በማስፋፋትና አዳዲስ የጭነት ተርሚናሎችን በመገንባት የዓለም አቀፍ ንግድ ድልድይነቱን በማጽናት ላይ ይገኛል።

የዲጂታል መሠረተ-ልማት አብዮት ሌላኛው የኢትዮጵያ ስኬታማ ስራዎች ማሳያ ሲሆን፣ ኢትዮጵያ በቴሌኮም ዘርፍ ያደረገችው የፖሊሲ ማሻሻያ እና የገበያ ክፍትነት፣ የዲጂታል መሠረተ-ልማቱን ፈጣን አድርጎታል።

የ5G ኔትወርክ መስፋፋት፣ የዳታ ማዕከላት መገንባት እና የዲጂታል ክፍያ ሥርዓቶች እንደ ኢ-ብር እና ቴሌብር ያሉ መስፋፋት ሀገራችንን ለዲጂታል ኢኮኖሚ ዝግጁ አድርገዋታል።

ዛሬ ዓለማችን በቴክኖሎጂ እና በኢኖቬሽን ፈጣን ግስጋሴ ውስጥ ትገኛለች። ኢትዮጵያም ይህንን ዓለም አቀፋዊ እውነት በውል በመገንዘብ፣ ሁለንተናዊ ኢኮኖሚዋን ከመሠረቱ የሚቀይር ታሪካዊ የዲጂታል ሽግግር እያከናወነች ትገኛለች።

በተለይም ባለፉት አምስት ዓመታት ሀገራችን ያለባትን ዘላቂ የቢሮክራሲ እና የኢኮኖሚ ፈተናዎች ለመቅረፍ ዲጂታላይዜሽንን እንደ ዋነኛ ስትራቴጂያዊ መሣሪያ በመውሰድ እየሠራችበት ትገኛለች።

ይህ ጉዞ የሀገርን የልማት ምሰሶ በጽኑ መሠረት ላይ የሚያጸና የመንግሥት የረጅም ጊዜ ቁርጠኝነት ማሳያ ነው ብለን እናምናለን።

በአንድ ወቅት የዲጂታል ኢኮኖሚ ግንባታ እንደ ሩቅ ሕልም ይታይ እንደነበር አይዘነጋም፤ ባለፉት አምስት ዓመታት በተከናወኑት መሠረታዊ ሥራዎች ግን ዛሬ ላይ ሊሻር በማይችል እውነታ ላይ የቆመ መሠረት ተጥሏል።

መንግሥት ያደረጋቸው ሰፊ የፖሊሲ እና የሕግ ማሻሻያዎች “ዲጂታል ኢትዮጵያ 2025” ስትራቴጂን በስኬት ለማጠናቀቅ አስችለዋል።

አሁን ደግሞ የሀገራችንን የትራንስፎርሜሽን ጉዞ ይበልጥ የሚያፋጥን እና ይበልጥ ስኬታማ የሚያደርገው “ዲጂታል ኢትዮጵያ 2030” የተሰኘው ብሔራዊ ስትራቴጂ ፀድቆ ወደ ሥራ እንዲገባ መደረጉ የሂደቱን ቀጣይነት ያረጋግጣል።

ከዚህ ጎን ለጎን የሰው ሠራሽ አስተውሎት ኢንስቲትዩት መቋቋም ለችግር ፈቺ የቴክኖሎጂ መፍትሔዎች መበልጸግ ምቹ ሁኔታን መፍጠሩ የሚበረታታ እርምጃ ነው።

በዚህ ዘመናዊ የታሪክ እጥፋት ውስጥ የ“ፋይዳ” ብሔራዊ የዲጂታል መታወቂያ ፕሮግራም እና የ“ኢትዮኮደርስ” ኢኒሼቲቭ ሚና እጅግ የላቀ ነው።

የዲጂታል መታወቂያ ለኢኮኖሚው ግንባታ ልክ እንደ ቤት መሠረት ነው። እስከ 90 ሚሊዮን ዜጎችን በሥርዓቱ ውስጥ ለማቀፍ የታቀደው ይህ ግዙፍ መርሐ ግብር ለባንክ፣ ለፋይናንስ፣ ለንግድ እንቅስቃሴ እና ለዴሞክራሲያዊ ሥርዓት ግንባታ ወሳኝ ምሰሶ ነው።

“የቆጠሩት እህል አያልቅም” እንደሚባለው የሀገርን የሰው ኃይል በዕውቀት ሳያደራጁ ዘላቂ ስኬትን ማሰብ አይቻልም። በመሆኑም በ“ኢትዮኮደርስ” ኢኒሼቲቭ 5 ሚሊዮን ዜጎች የዲጂታል ክህሎት ሥልጠና እንዲያገኙ ማድረግ የነገዋን የበለጸገች ኢትዮጵያ የሚረከቡ ባለሙያዎችን ለማፍራት የተጣለ ታላቅ መሠረት ነው።

የአገልግሎት አሰጣጥን ለማዘመን በሁሉም አካባቢዎች እየተገነባ ያለው “የመሶብ” የአንድ ማዕከል አገልግሎትም የተንዛዛ ቢሮክራሲን እና የዜጎችን እንግልት በማስቀረት የመንግሥትን ግልጽነት እና ተጠያቂነት በከፍተኛ ደረጃ አሳድጎታል። ይህ ዓይነቱ አሠራር ሙስና እና ብክነትን በዘላቂነት ለመከላከል የሚያስችል አስተማማኝ ተቋማዊ አቅም ይፈጥራል።

በፋይናንስ ዘርፍም ቢሆን በ2017 በጀት ዓመት ብቻ በዲጂታል የተከናወነው የግብይት ዋጋ 16 ትሪሊዮን ብር መድረሱ የዲጂታል ኢኮኖሚው ምን ያህል ውጤታማ እና ተደራሽ እየሆነ ለመምጣቱ ሕያው ማሳያ ነው።

ይህ ስኬት ዝቅተኛ ገቢ ያላቸው ዜጎች እና ጥቃቅን ኢንተርፕራይዞች በቀላሉ የብድር እና የቁጠባ አገልግሎት እንዲያገኙ በማድረግ የፋይናንስ አካታችነትን በተግባር አረጋግጧል።

ለወደፊቱም መሠረታዊ የመንግሥት አገልግሎቶችን ሙሉ በሙሉ በዲጂታል ፕላትፎርሞች ተደራሽ ለማድረግ የታቀደው ዕቅድ የሀገራችንን የነገ ገጽታ በእጅጉ የሚቀይር ነው።

መንግሥት የሳይበር ሉዓላዊነትን በማረጋገጥ እና የስታርትአፕ ሥነ ምኅዳርን በማጠናከር፣ የዲጂታል ሽግግር ሂደቱን አስተማማኝ እና ደኅንነቱ የተጠበቀ እያደረገው ይገኛል።

በአጠቃላይ ይህ ታሪካዊ ጉዞ የዜጎችን የዕለት ተዕለት ኑሮ የሚያቀልል፣ ሀገራችንን በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ተወዳዳሪ የሚያደርግ እና የኢኮኖሚ ልማታችንን ከሕልም ወደ እውነት የለወጠ የጋራ ብሔራዊ ስኬታችን በመሆኑ ሁሉም አካላት ለስኬቱ የበኩላቸውን ድርሻ ሊወጡ ይገባል።

Ethiopian Airlines gracefully concluded its series of celebratory events marking its 80th anniversary with a grand Gala Dinner graced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia H.E. Temesgen Tiruneh, the airline’s Board Chairman Lt. General Yilma Merdasa, the Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew, high level government officials, ambassadors, ministers, partners, stakeholders, and the airline’s executives.
