A Successful Extended Morrow’s Procedure for a 2-Year-Old Boy Performed by Ethiopian Cardiac Surgical Specialist team
Yesterday, we successfully completed a 7-hour Extended Morrow’s Septal Myectomy on a 2-year-old child, marking a major victory in pediatric cardiac surgery for our country.
This child was suffering from a familial genetic condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HOCM), which had caused severe obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT). The condition also led to severe mitral regurgitation, severely compromising the child’s life and heart function.
The operation was complex and intense, requiring two rounds on cardiopulmonary bypass, and involved critical decision-making and adjustments during the procedure. Ultimately, we achieved a remarkable and life-saving result.
Baby Mikiyas is currently recovering in a stable condition under intensive care
