Rural Connectivity: Empowering Communities and Bridging the Digital Divide!

Ethio telecom has successfully completed the first year of its Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy, marking significant progress in bridging Ethiopia’s digital divide. At the heart of this strategy is our commitment to inclusive, sustainable and transformative rural connectivity, ensuring that geography, distance and limited access to electricity do not prevent communities from participating in the digital economy.

During the fiscal year, we deployed 195 new rural mobile sites, reaching communities located, on average, 14.3 kilometres from the nearest town and 10.6 kilometres from the nearest existing mobile site. This demonstrates our deliberate focus on connecting Ethiopia’s most remote and underserved areas.

This expansion extended connectivity and digital access to 117 woredas and 492 kebeles and villages, enabling more than 1.53 million people to benefit from reliable communications, digital platforms and inclusive financial services.

To address power limitations in remote areas, we deployed 22 additional Rural Solution sites, specifically designed to serve communities with limited or no access to the national electricity grid. We also significantly expanded our green energy infrastructure, increasing installed solar power capacity from 27 MW to 39.72 MW, an additional 12.72 MW in just one year. This investment strengthens network resilience, reduces dependence on conventional energy sources and advances our environmental sustainability commitments.

Connectivity must also translate into meaningful access to essential services. Through our Rural Agent Project, we onboarded 812 new agents across 17 regions, achieving a 58% active-agent rate and bringing telebirr and other essential digital financial services closer to previously underserved communities. Going forward, we will focus on further improving agent activation, productivity and service availability.

We also advanced the fiberization of rural wireless sites, strengthening network capacity, reliability and service quality while preparing rural communities for growing digital demand.

Ethio telecom CEO, Frehiwot Tamru, hosted high-level strategic discussions with a senior delegation from Inspur Software Technology Co., Ltd., led by its Board Chairman, Mr. Lin Shuai. Joining the delegation was Mr. Gao Xinjie, Deputy General Manager of Shandong Hi-Speed Road & Bridge International Engineering, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering an integrated partnership that combines advanced digital technologies with state-of-the-art infrastructure development.

Aligned with Ethio telecom's "Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028" strategy, the discussions focused on establishing a strategic partnership that integrates next-generation digital technologies with modern infrastructure to accelerate Ethiopia's digital transformation and strengthen the nation's digital economy. By combining cutting-edge computing capabilities with robust physical infrastructure, the collaboration aims to create a resilient, intelligent, and future-ready digital ecosystem that supports inclusive economic growth and national development.

As part of the proposed collaboration, Inspur Software Technology will contribute its expertise in advanced digital infrastructure by supporting the design and deployment of high-performance computing, AI-ready data center solutions, cloud computing platforms, and intelligent digital infrastructure. These capabilities are expected to strengthen Ethiopia's sovereign digital infrastructure, enhance national computing capacity, support AI-driven innovation, and enable the delivery of next-generation digital and enterprise services.

The discussions also explored opportunities to jointly develop localized digital applications and industry-specific solutions tailored to Ethiopia's market, with the aim of accelerating digital adoption across key sectors of the economy. Furthermore, the companies discussed collaboration in areas including AI computing infrastructure, cloud services, enterprise digital transformation, smart industry solutions, talent development, technology transfer, research and innovation. They also explored leveraging their complementary strengths to expand cooperation beyond Ethiopia and jointly pursue strategic opportunities across Africa, contributing to regional digital transformation, digital inclusion, and sustainable economic growth.

During the discussions, Mr. Lin Shuai and Mr. Gao Xinjie highly commended Ethio telecom's visionary leadership, remarkable transformation journey, and outstanding achievements in evolving from a traditional telecommunications operator into one of Africa's leading digital services and technology companies. ኮሌጁ የባለሙያውን ሰነዶችና የስራ አፈፃፀም በዝርዝር ከገመገመ በኋላ ይህንን ከፍተኛ የትምህርት ማዕረግ አፅድቆላቸዋል።

ፕሮፌሰር ሰለሞን አሊ በህክምና ምርምርና በማይክሮባዮሎጂ ዘርፍ በስፋት የሚታወቁ አንጋፋ ስፔሻሊስት ናቸው።

የምርምር ስራዎቻቸውም በዋናነት በተላላፊ በሽታዎች፣ በፀረ ጀርም መድኃኒቶች መላመድ እንዲሁም አዲስና ዳግም በሚቀሰቀሱ የቫይረስ አይነቶች ላይ ያተኮሩ ናቸው።

ፕሮፌሰሩ ባለፉት 20 ዓመታት በቅዱስ ጳውሎስ ሆስፒታል ሚሊኒየም ሕክምና ኮሌጅና በጅማ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ውስጥ በመምህርነት፣ በምርምርና በሕክምና አገልግሎት አገራቸውን በቅንነት ያገለገሉ ዓለም አቀፍ ተሞክሮ ያላቸው ምሁር ናቸው።

በማስተማር ስራቸውም በርካታ የሕክምና፣ የጤና ሳይንስ፣ የማይክሮባዮሎጂና የክሊኒካል ሬዚደንት የቅድመና ድህረ ምረቃ ተማሪዎችን አፍርተዋል።

እስካሁንም በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ እውቅና ባላቸው የምርምር መጽሔቶች ላይ 56 የምርምር ውጤቶችን ያሳተሙ ሲሆን ስድስት ታላላቅ ዓለም አቀፍ የትብብር የምርምር ፈንዶችንም ማሸነፍ ችለዋል።

በተጨማሪም ፕሮፌሰር ሰለሞን አሊ የሀገሪቱን የምርምርና የማይክሮባዮሎጂ አገልግሎት መሠረተ ልማት ለማጠናከር ከፍተኛ ሚና ተጫውተዋል።

በዚህም በቅዱስ ጳውሎስ ሆስፒታል ሚሊኒየም ሕክምና ኮሌጅ የመጀመሪያውን የጤና ምርምር መጽሔት፣ ዘመናዊ የተላላፊ በሽታዎች የዘረመል ምርምር ላቦራቶሪ፣ ለቀጣይ ጥናቶች የሚሆኑ ናሙናዎችን ለረጅም ጊዜ ማቆያ ማዕከልና የማይክሮባዮሎጂ መረጃዎችን በዲጂታል መንገድ የማደራጃ ሥርዓት መስርተዋል።

ፕሮፌሰር ሰለሞን አሊ በጤናው ዘርፍ ላበረከቱት የላቀ ሙያዊ አስተዋፅኦ በቅርቡ ከጤና ሚኒስቴር የ2018 ዓ.ም የብሔራዊ እውቅና ሽልማት መበርከቱ ይታወሳል።

The Managing Board of Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), at its regular meeting held today, June 16, 2026, approved the promotion of Dr. Solomon Ali to the rank of Full Professor.

After carefully reviewing her academic, clinical, research, and service achievements, the Board endorsed his promotion in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medical education, research, and institutional leadership

Professor Solomon Ali is a distinguished microbiologist and medical research specialist whose work focuses on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and emerging/reemerging viral pathogens.
He has served his country for over 20 years at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) and Jimma University (JU), contributing extensively to academic, clinical, and research activities.

Professor Solomon has trained, mentored, and supervised undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students, guiding numerous research theses. Throughout his academic and research career, he has published more than 56 articles in reputable international journals and has secured six major competitive international research grants. Prof. Solomon has also played a pivotal role in strengthening research and health service infrastructures.

He has established Millennium Journal of Health, the first scholarly journal in SPHMMC, Infectious Diseases Research and Molecular Laboratory (IDReaM Lab) with integrated bio-banking system, and digitalizing hospital microbiology service laboratory data management system through a DHIS2 based platform.

Recently, Prof. Solomon Ali received national recognition from the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia as the recipient of the 2026 Award for outstanding professional contribution in the health sector.

የፕላስቲክ መክተፊያና ተያያዥ ስጋቶች‼️

በየቀኑ በኩሽናችን ውስጥ የምንጠቀምባቸው የፕላስቲክ መክተፊያዎች (Cutting Boards) አብዛኞቹ ከፖሊኢቲሊን (Polyethylene) ወይም ፖሊፕሮፒሊን (Polypropylene) የተሰሩ ናቸው።

እነዚህ መክተፊያዎች ምግብ ስንከትፍ በሚፈጠር ግጭትና ጭረት ምክንያት በዓይን የማይታዩ ጥቃቅን የፕላስቲክ ቅንጣቶች (Microplastics) ወደ ምግባችን እንዲቀላቀሉ ምክንያት ሊሆኑ ይችላሉ።

የቅርብ ጊዜ ጥናቶች እንደሚያሳዩት፣ የፕላስቲክ መክተፊያዎችን አዘውትሮ መጠቀም በዓመት በሚሊዮኖች የሚቆጠሩ ጥቃቅን የፕላስቲክ ቅንጣቶችን ወደ ሰውነታችን እንዲገቡ ሊያደርግ ይችላል።

መክተፊያው ባረጀና በቢላዋ ጭረት በበዛበት ቁጥር የሚወጣው የፕላስቲክ መጠን በከፍተኛ ሁኔታ ይጨምራል።

ምንም እንኳን ወደ ሰውነታችን የሚገባው የፕላስቲክ መጠን ትክክለኛ ክብደት ላይ አሁንም ጥናቶች ቢቀጥሉም፣ ቅንጣቶቹ ወደ ደም ዝውውር የመቀላቀልና በረጅም ጊዜ ለጤና ስጋት የመሆን እድላቸው ግን አሳሳቢ ነው።

ይህ ሁኔታ በተለይ በህጻናት ላይ ጥንቃቄን ይሻል። ህጻናት እያደጉ ያሉ በመሆናቸውና የሰውነት ክብደታቸው አነስተኛ በመሆኑ፣ ወደ ሰውነታቸው የሚገቡ የኬሚካል ቅንጣቶች ከአዋቂዎች ይልቅ በእድገታቸውና በሆርሞን ስርዓታቸው ላይ ጫና ሊፈጥሩ ይችላሉ።

ማይክሮ ፕላስቲኮች ወደ ሰውነት ከገቡ በኋላ የሚከተሉትን ችግሮች ሊያስከትሉ እንደሚችሉ ስጋቶች አሉ፦

1. በፕላስቲክ ውስጥ የሚገኙ ኬሚካሎች (እንደ BPA ያሉ) የተፈጥሮ ሆርሞኖችን ስራ ሊያስተጓጉሉ ይችላሉ።

2. ጥቃቅን ቅንጣቶቹ በሴሎች ውስጥ በመከማቸት ለተለያዩ ብግነቶች መንስኤ ሊሆኑ ይችላሉ።

3. ፕላስቲኮች ሌሎች አካባቢያዊ መርዛማ ንጥረ ነገሮችን ስበው የመያዝ ባህሪ ስላላቸው ተጨማሪ ስጋት ይፈጥራሉ።

መፍትሄው :-

1. የእንጨት መክተፊያዎችን መጠቀም የእንጨት መክተፊያዎች ከተፈጥሮ (Cellulose) የተሰሩ በመሆናቸውና የመቆረጥ እድላቸው ዝቅተኛ በመሆኑ ተመራጭ ናቸው።

2. ያረጁ መክተፊያዎችን መቀየር የፕላስቲክ መክተፊያ የሚጠቀሙ ከሆነ ጥልቅ ጭረቶች ሲፈጠሩና ሲያረጅ በአዲስ መቀየር ያስፈልጋል።

3. ጥንቃቄ በተለይ በሆቴሎችና በስጋ ቤቶች ውስጥ ትልልቅ ቢላዎችና መጥረቢያዎች ስለሚጠቀሙ፣ መክተፊያዎቹ ላይ የሚፈጠሩ ጥልቅ ጭረቶች ለፕላስቲክ ቅንጣቶች መለቀቅ ከፍተኛ አስተዋጽኦ አላቸው።

ጤናችንን ለመጠበቅ የለት ተለት ልምዶቻችንን ቆም ብለን ማጤንና የተሻሉ አማራጮችን መከተል ለነገው ደህንነታችን ወሳኝ ነው።

ቴክቦል የእግር ኳስ ክህሎትን ከጠረጴዛ ቴኒስ ሕግጋት ጋር አጣምሮ የያዘ፣ ኳሱ በእጅ ሳይነካ በታጠፈ ጠረጴዛ ላይ የሚጫወቱት አስደሳች ስፖርት ሲሆን፣ በአሁኑ ወቅት በመላው ዓለም ተወዳጅነትን እያገኘ የመጣ የስፖርት አይነት ነው።

ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ዐቢይ አሕመድ (ዶ/ር) በዛሬው ዕለት በይፋ ያስመረቁት ከእንጦጦ እስከ ቀጨኔ መድኃኔዓለም ያለው የመልሶ ማልማት እና የወንዝ ዳርቻ ልማት ፕሮጀክት ይህንን የስፖርት ዓይነት ያካተተ ነው።

በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ይህ ስፖርት ለመጀመሪያ ጊዜ እ.አ.አ በ2012 በሃንጋሪ የተዋወቀ የስፖርት አይነት ሲሆን፣ ጋቦር ቦርሳኒ፣ ቪክቶር ሁሳር እና ጂዮርጂ ጋትያን በተባሉ ሦስት ግለሰቦች አማካኝነት እንደተጀመረ ይገለፃል።

የቴክቦል ዋነኛው መለያ ባህሪ "ቴክቦርድ" (Teqboard) ተብሎ የሚጠራውና መሃሉ ከፍ ብሎ ጫፎቹ ወደ ታች የታጠፈ ልዩ ጠረጴዛ መሆኑ ነው። ይህ የጠረጴዛው ቅርጽ ኳሱ በየትኛውም አቅጣጫ እንዲነጥርና ጨዋታው ፍጥነትና ከፍተኛ ክህሎት እንዲኖረው ያደርጋል።

የስፖርቱ ሕጎች በጣም ቀላልና ለማንም ሰው ለመረዳት ምቹ ሲሆኑ፣ በሁለት ተቃራኒ ተጫዋቾች (አንድ ለአንድ) ወይም በቡድን (ሁለት ለሁለት) ሊጫወቱት የሚችሉት ስፖርት ነው።

ልክ እንደ እግር ኳስ ሁሉ፣ ኳሱን በእጅ መንካት በጥብቅ የተከለከለ ሲሆን፤ ተጫዋቾች ኳሱን በጭንቅላታቸው፣ በደረታቸው፣ በትከሻቸው ወይም በእግራቸው መምታት ይችላሉ።

አንድ ተጫዋች ወይም ቡድን ኳሱ ወደ ተቃራኒው ወገን ከመሻገሩ በፊት ቢበዛ ሦስት ጊዜ ብቻ የመንካት መብት አለው።

በአንድ የሰውነት ክፍል (በእግር ብቻ፣ በደረት ብቻ አልያም በጭንቅላት ብቻ) በተከታታይ ሁለትጊዜ ኳሱን መንካት አይፈቀድም። ይህም ተጫዋቾች የተለያዩ የሰውነት ክፍሎቻቸውን እንዲጠቀሙና የተለየ ብቃት እንዲያሳዩ ያስገድዳቸዋል።

በአሁኑ ወቅት ቴክቦል በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ በፌዴሬሽን የሚመራ ሲሆን፣ ወደ ኦሎምፒክ ስፖርቶች እንዲካተትም ከፍተኛ ጥረት እየተደረገ ይገኛል። እንደ ሮናልዲንሆ ያሉ ታዋቂ የዓለም እግር ኳስ ተጫዋቾች የስፖርቱ አምባሳደር በመሆን እያስተዋወቁት ይገኛሉ።

ስፖርቱ ምንም ዓይነት የአካል ንክኪ ስለሌለውና በትንሽ ቦታ ላይ ሊከናወን ስለሚችል ጉዳትን የሚቀንስ ከመሆኑም በላይ ለተጫዋቾች ትኩረትን፣ ቅልጥፍናን እና የኳስ ቁጥጥርን ለማሻሻል ትልቅ አስተዋጽኦ አለው።

በተጨማሪም የልብ ጤናን የሚያሻሽል፣ አእምሮን የሚያነቃቃ እንዲሁም የአይን፣ የእግር እና የአእምሮ ቅንጅትን በማሳደግ ፈጣን ውሳኔ የመስጠት ብቃትን የሚያዳብር ስፖርት ነው፤ ዕድሜና ጾታ ሳይለይ ሁሉም ሰው ሊጫወተው ስለሚችል፣ የአእምሮ ውጥረትን ለመቀነስና ማኅበራዊ ግንኙነትን ለማጠናከር ከፍተኛ ጠቀሜታ አለው።
