#ethiopia | ወደ መነሻ መስመሩ ይቅረቡ፤ ግራንድ አፍሪካን ረን ~ የተለያዩ የኑሮ ዘርፎችና የሕይወት ታሪኮች ያሏቸውን ሰዎች በአንድ የሚያሰባስብ የ5 ኪሎ ሜትር ሩጫ እና ከባህል ጋር የተቆራኘ የአንድነትና የተሳትፎ ልምድ የሚያቀርብ የትርፍ ያልሆነ ዝግጅት ነው።
ከተለያዩ ትውልዶች የተውጣጡ ቤተሰቦች፣ የተለያየ ዕድሜ፣ የአኗኗር ዳራ፣ ችሎታና የሕይወት ልምድ ያላቸው ሰዎች ተመሳሳይ ቀለም ያላቸውን ሸሚዞች ለብሰው በሩጫው፣ በእግር ጉዞው እና በመራመዱ ይሳተፋሉ።
የግራንድ አፍሪካን ረን መስራች ዶ/ር ጋሻው አበዛ እንደሚሉት፦
“ሁሉም ሰው ተመሳሳይ ዓይነት ሸሚዝ ለብሷል፤ ስለዚህ ማን ዕድሜው የገፋ ወይም ወጣት፣ ሀብታም ወይም ድሃ መሆኑን ማወቅ አይቻልም። በመነሻ መስመሩ አጠገብ የሚፈሱትን ሰዎች ማየት ያለውን ስሜት እወደዋለሁ፤ ምክንያቱም ይህን ዝግጅት ለማዘጋጀት ብዙ ጥረት ይደረጋል።”
ከሩጫ በላይ የሆነ የባህል ተሞክሮ
ግራንድ አፍሪካን ረን በአሌክሳንድሪያ ከተማ በሚገኙ እንደ Old Town እና Potomac Yard ባሉ ሰፈሮች የሚካሄድ ሩጫ ብቻ አይደለም። ይህ አፍሪካዊ ባህልን የሚያስተዋውቅ ልዩ የባህል ተሞክሮም ነው።
በዝግጅቱ የተለያዩ የቀጥታ ትርዒቶች ይቀርባሉ። ሙዚቀኞች የተለያዩ የአፍሪካ ከበሮዎችንና ቫዮሊንን ይጫወታሉ፤ ዳንሰኞችም እስክስታ የተባለውን ባህላዊ የኢትዮጵያ ዳንስ ጨምሮ ከኤርትራ፣ ከሩዋንዳ፣ ከኬንያና ከሌሎችም የአፍሪካ አገራት የተውጣጡ ባህላዊ ውዝዋዜዎችን ያቀርባሉ።
በተጨማሪም ከአፍሪካ ዲያስፖራ የተውጣጡ ምግቦችና የባህል ቅርሶች በነጋዴዎች ይቀርባሉ። የበጎ አድራጎት አጋር ድርጅቶችም ከተሳታፊዎች ጋር በመገናኘት ሩጫውን የሚሳተፉበትን ወይም የሚደግፉበትን የበጎ አድራጎት ዓላማ እንዲመርጡ ያደርጋሉ።
ከእነዚህም መካከል African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA)፣ Your Ethiopian Professionals Network (YEP)፣ Raeye Children Aid (RCA) እና ሌሎች በርካታ ድርጅቶች ይገኙበታል። WIHA የተባለው ድርጅት ደግሞ በአፍሪካ ለሚገኙ በቂ አገልግሎት ላላገኙ ማህበረሰቦች ንጹህ ውሃ፣ የወር አበባ ንጽህና ፓዶችና ሌሎች አስፈላጊ ድጋፎችን ያቀርባል።
አሌክሳንድሪያ፦ የተለያዩ ባህሎች መገናኛ
ዶ/ር ጋሻው አበዛ አሌክሳንድሪያ ለግራንድ አፍሪካን ረን ተስማሚ ስፍራ የሆነችውን ምክንያት ሲገልጹ፦
“ከተማዋ ሰዎቿ ናቸው። ከመላው ዓለም የመጡ ሰዎች በአሌክሳንድሪያ ይኖራሉ። እዚህ ሁሉም ሰው ተቀባይነት አለው፤ ተሞክሮዎቹም ይህንን ያረጋግጣሉ።”
የመስጠትና የማህበረሰብ መንፈሱ በዝግጅቱ ሁሉ ይቀጥላል። ተሳታፊዎች የመኪና ሎተሪ ዕጣ ለመግዛትም ዕድል ያገኛሉ። በዚህ ዓመት ሽልማቱ 2026 Toyota Corolla ነው።
እንዲሁም African Impact Award በተለያዩ የሥራ ዘርፎች የላቀ አስተዋጽኦ ያበረከቱ የአፍሪካ መሪዎችን የሚያውቅና የሚያከብር የሽልማት መርሃ ግብር ነው።
ዶ/ር አበዛ፣ “ለማንም ክፍት ነው። ሁሉም ሰው በሩጫው መሳተፍ ይችላል። ነገር ግን የአፍሪካን ስኬቶች ለማክበር ስለፈለግን ግራንድ አፍሪካን ሩን ብለን ሰየምነው” ይላሉ።
የአፍሪካ የሩጫ ባህል ያነሳሳው ስም
ግራንድ አፍሪካን ረን የሚለው ስም አፍሪካ በሩጫ ዓለም ያላትን ጠንካራ ባህል ያንፀባርቃል። ዶ/ር አበዛ ይህንን ባህል በሥራ ሕይወታቸው መጀመሪያ ላይ ከ30,000 በላይ ተሳታፊዎችን ባሰባሰበ የሩጫ ዝግጅት ላይ በመስራት ተመልክተዋል።
“ያ የሥራ ሕይወቴ የመጀመሪያ ዘመን በጣም ያምር ነበር። ያ ከአምስት ዓመታት በላይ የሠራሁበት የመጀመሪያ ሥራዬ ነበር። በዚያን ጊዜ ወንዶች፣ ሴቶች፣ አካል ጉዳተኞች—ሁሉም አብረው ይሰበሰቡ ነበር።”
ዶ/ር አበዛ ለአምስት ዓመታት ያህል የሩጫ ዝግጅቶችን በማዘጋጀት ያሳለፉ ሲሆን፣ ስፖርት የዕድሜ፣ የባህል፣ የአኗኗር ወይም የችሎታ ልዩነት ሳይገድበው ሰዎችን ማቀራረብ እንደሚችል በተግባር ተመልክተዋል።
በቀጣይ ዓመታትም በስፖርት ቢዝነስ ዘርፍ ተመራማሪ፣ ፕሮፌሰርና አማካሪ በመሆን ሰፊ ልምድ አካብተዋል። የዶክትሬት ትምህርታቸውን ሲጀምሩ፣ ከባለቤታቸውና ከልጆቻቸው ጋር መረጋጋት ሲጀምሩና በሌላ ሀገር ቤት መስራት ምን ማለት እንደሆነ ሲያስቡ ስለሕይወት ዓላማቸው በጥልቀት ማሰብ ጀመሩ።
“ማስተማር እችላለሁ። መጽሐፍትን መጻፍና ተማሪዎችን ማስተማር እችላለሁ። ግን ከዚያስ? ማሰብ ጀመርኩ፤ ‘አንድ ነገር ማድረግ አለብኝ። ሕይወት ወደዚህ የዓለም ክፍል ካመጣኝ፣ መልሼ ለማኅበረሰቡ መስጠት እፈልጋለሁ’ አልኩ። 70 ዓመት ሲሆነኝ ለልጆቼ ምን እነግራቸዋለሁ? እናንተ በሕይወታችሁ ዓላማ አላችሁ፤ እኔም በሕይወቴ ዓላማ አለኝ። ሁሉም ሰው በዚህ ሕይወት ዓላማ አለው፣ አይደል? የእኔ ዓላማ ለሌሎች መስጠት ነው።”
ይህ የሕይወት ዓላማ ፍለጋ የግራንድ አፍሪካን ሩን ሃሳብ እንዲወለድ አደረገ። የሚቀረው ጉዳይ ይህንን ራዕይ ለማስፈጸም ተስማሚ ቦታ ማግኘት ነበር፤ እሱም አሌክሳንድሪያ ሆነች።
የአፍሪካ ብቃትና ስኬትን ማክበር
የዝግጅቱ ዓላማ ግልጽ ከሆነ በኋላ ዶ/ር አበዛ ግራንድ አፍሪካን ሩንን ከአፍሪካና ከዓለም የተወደዱ ታዋቂ አትሌቶች ጋር ለማገናኘት ችለዋል። ከእነዚህም መካከል የኦሎምፒክ ታሪካዊ አትሌቶች ጥሩነሽ ዲባባ እና ደራርቱ ቱሉ ይገኙበታል።
በአቅራቢያውም ለህፃናት የሚዘጋጅ የሩጫ ውድድር ይካሄዳል፤ ይህም ለዝግጅቱ ሌላ የደስታና የተሳትፎ ደረጃን ይጨምራል።
ዶ/ር አበዛ እንደሚሉት፦
“በአሌክሳንድሪያ ሁሉም ባህሎች ይገናኛሉ። ውብ ከተማ ናት፤ ከዓለም የመጡ ሰዎችም በውስጧ ይኖራሉ። ፍጹም መዳረሻ ናት። ከVisit Alexandria የሚደረገው ድጋፍም ሚና አለው። አሁን ያለችው ከንቲባ አሊያ ጋስኪንስ፣ የከተማው ምክር ቤት አባል ጆን ቴይለር ቻፕማን እና ሌሎችም በጣም ደጋፊ ነበሩ። ለዚህም ነው በአሌክሳንድሪያ የምናደርገው።”

Grand African Run
Step up to the starting line for the Grand African Run, a nonprofit event where people from all walks of life come together for a 5K run and a cultural experience rooted in connection and belonging.
Families spanning generations, people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences create a vibrant sea of runners, joggers, and walkers—united by matching-colored shirts.
“All human beings in the same type of shirt…so you can’t tell who is old or young, rich or poor. I love that feeling of seeing a stream of people by the start line, because there’s a lot of hard work that goes into this event,” says Dr. Gashaw Abeza, founder of the Grand African Run.
More than a race through Alexandria’s neighborhoods, including Old Town and Potomac Yard, the Grand African Run is an immersive cultural experience. Live performers take the stage as musicians play African drums and violins, while dancers showcase Eskista, the traditional Ethiopian dance, alongside cultural performances from Eritrea, Rwanda, Kenya, and other African communities.
Vendors also offer food, cultural products, and artifacts from across the African diaspora. Charity partners connect with participants and give runners the opportunity to support causes of their choice, including the African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA), Your Ethiopian Professionals Network (YEP), Raeye Children Aid (RCA) and many other organizations. Among them is WIHA, which supports underserved communities in Africa by providing clean water, menstrual pads, and other essential resources.
Alexandria: A City of Connection
Dr. Abeza says Alexandria quickly became the perfect home for the Grand African Run.
“The city is the people. People from all over the world live in Alexandria. You are welcome, and the experiences prove it.”
That spirit of community and giving continues throughout the event. Participants also have the opportunity to enter a lottery drawing for a car, with the 2026 Toyota Corolla serving as this year’s prize.
The event also features the African Impact Award, which recognizes extraordinary achievements by African leaders across different industries.
“It’s open for anyone. Everybody is welcome to run in it. But we called it that way to celebrate Africa’s achievements, so we called it Grand African Run,” Dr. Abeza explains.
Inspired by Africa’s Running Culture
The name Grand African Run also reflects Africa’s remarkable running culture, something Dr. Abeza encountered early in his career while working at a local running event that attracted more than 30,000 participants.
“That early age of my career was beautiful. That was my very first job, which I did for five years, and during that time, men, women, anyone disabled, they all came together.”
For nearly five years, Dr. Abeza helped organize running events and saw firsthand how sport could bring people together regardless of age, background, or ability.
Over the years, he developed an extensive career as a researcher, professor, and consultant in sports business. But while pursuing his doctoral degree, settling down with his wife and children, and reflecting on what it meant to build a home in another country, he began thinking more deeply about purpose.
“I can teach. Write books and educate students. But so, what? I started to think, I have got to do something. If life took me to this part of the world, I want to give back. When I’m 70, what am I going to tell my kids? You have purpose in your life. I have a purpose in my life. Everyone has got purpose in this life, right? My purpose is giving back.”
That search for purpose became the inspiration for the Grand African Run. The remaining question was where to bring the vision to life—and Alexandria proved to be the place.
Celebrating African Excellence
With the event's purpose firmly established, Dr. Abeza has brought the Grand African Run to the attention of some of Africa and the world's celebrated athletes, including Olympic legends Tirunesh Dibaba and Derartu Tulu.
A dedicated kids’ race also takes place nearby, adding another generation to the celebration.
“In Alexandria, all cultures come together. It’s a beautiful city and people from all over the world live in it. It’s a perfect destination, and having support from Visit Alexandria plays a role as well. The current Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Councilman John Taylor Chapman, those people they have been amazingly supportive. That’s why we do it in Alexandria,” says Dr. Abeza.
Join the Grand African Run
The Grand African Run will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Alexandria, Virginia.
It is more than a 5K. It is a gathering of communities, cultures, generations, athletes, families, charities, and supporters coming together to celebrate Africa, its people, achievements, and spirit of belonging.

የአፍሪካ ብቃትና ስኬትን ማክበር
የዝግጅቱ ዓላማ ግልጽ ከሆነ በኋላ ዶ/ር አበዛ ግራንድ አፍሪካን ሩንን ከአፍሪካና ከዓለም የተወደዱ ታዋቂ አትሌቶች ጋር ለማገናኘት ችለዋል። ከእነዚህም መካከል የኦሎምፒክ ታሪካዊ አትሌቶች ጥሩነሽ ዲባባ እና ደራርቱ ቱሉ ይገኙበታል።

“All human beings in the same type of shirt…so you can’t tell who is old or young, rich or poor. I love that feeling of seeing a stream of people by the start line, because there’s a lot of hard work that goes into this event,” says Dr. Gashaw Abeza, founder of the Grand African Run.
More than a race through Alexandria’s neighborhoods, including Old Town and Potomac Yard, the Grand African Run is an immersive cultural experience. Live performers take the stage as musicians play African drums and violins, while dancers showcase Eskista, the traditional Ethiopian dance, alongside cultural performances from Eritrea, Rwanda, Kenya, and other African communities.
Vendors also offer food, cultural products, and artifacts from across the African diaspora. Charity partners connect with participants and give runners the opportunity to support causes of their choice, including the African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA), Your Ethiopian Professionals Network (YEP), Raeye Children Aid (RCA) and many other organizations. Among them is WIHA, which supports underserved communities in Africa by providing clean water, menstrual pads, and other essential resources.
Alexandria: A City of Connection
Dr. Abeza says Alexandria quickly became the perfect home for the Grand African Run.
“The city is the people. People from all over the world live in Alexandria. You are welcome, and the experiences prove it.”
That spirit of community and giving continues throughout the event. Participants also have the opportunity to enter a lottery drawing for a car, with the 2026 Toyota Corolla serving as this year’s prize.
The event also features the African Impact Award, which recognizes extraordinary achievements by African leaders across different industries.
“It’s open for anyone. Everybody is welcome to run in it. But we called it that way to celebrate Africa’s achievements, so we called it Grand African Run,” Dr. Abeza explains.
Inspired by Africa’s Running Culture
The name Grand African Run also reflects Africa’s remarkable running culture, something Dr. Abeza encountered early in his career while working at a local running event that attracted more than 30,000 participants.
“That early age of my career was beautiful. That was my very first job, which I did for five years, and during that time, men, women, anyone disabled, they all came together.”
For nearly five years, Dr. Abeza helped organize running events and saw firsthand how sport could bring people together regardless of age, background, or ability.
Over the years, he developed an extensive career as a researcher, professor, and consultant in sports business. But while pursuing his doctoral degree, settling down with his wife and children, and reflecting on what it meant to build a home in another country, he began thinking more deeply about purpose.
“I can teach. Write books and educate students. But so, what? I started to think, I have got to do something. If life took me to this part of the world, I want to give back. When I’m 70, what am I going to tell my kids? You have purpose in your life. I have a purpose in my life. Everyone has got purpose in this life, right? My purpose is giving back.”
That search for purpose became the inspiration for the Grand African Run. The remaining question was where to bring the vision to life—and Alexandria proved to be the place.
Celebrating African Excellence
With the event's purpose firmly established, Dr. Abeza has brought the Grand African Run to the attention of some of Africa and the world's celebrated athletes, including Olympic legends Tirunesh Dibaba and Derartu Tulu.
A dedicated kids’ race also takes place nearby, adding another generation to the celebration.
“In Alexandria, all cultures come together. It’s a beautiful city and people from all over the world live in it. It’s a perfect destination, and having support from Visit Alexandria plays a role as well. The current Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Councilman John Taylor Chapman, those people they have been amazingly supportive. That’s why we do it in Alexandria,” says Dr. Abeza.

ከዋናው የመጽሐፉ ይዘት ጋር ተያያዥነት ያላቸው የአዶር ግጥሞች፣ ተጨማሪ ግጥሞችና የልቅሶ ግጥሞች በአባሪነት ተካተዋል። ደራሲው እንደሚገልጸው፣ የግጥሞቹ ምርጫ በጥብቅ የሥነ-ጥበብ ወይም የይዘት መስፈርት ላይ ሳይመሠረት በደራሲው እጅ በነበረው የመረጃ ተደራሽነት ላይ በከፊል የተመሠረተ ነው።
ደራሲው የአዶር እና የማይቃስ ግጥሞችን ለመተርጎም ከመሞከር ይልቅ በመጀመሪያ ቋንቋቸው ለመጠበቅ መርጧል። ይህም ለወደፊት ትውልድ የአካባቢውን ቋንቋዊና ባህላዊ ይዘት ለማስቀመጥ የታለመ ነው።
የሳሆ ቋንቋ ጽሑፎችም ለንባብ ቀላልነት በግዕዝ ፊደልና በላቲን ፊደል ቀርበዋል።
ምሳሌዎች፣ እንቆቅልሾችና ባህላዊ እውቀት
የኢሮብ ሕዝብ ከትውልድ ወደ ትውልድ ያስተላለፋቸው ምሳሌዎችና እንቆቅልሾችም በመጽሐፉ አባሪ ውስጥ ተካተዋል።
እነዚህ የቃል ቅርሶች በሕዝቡ ውስጥ የተስፋፉ እምነቶችን፣ የአስተሳሰብ መንገዶችንና የዕለት ተዕለት ባህላዊ እውቀቶችን ለመመልከት መስኮት እንደሚሆኑ መጽሐፉ ያቀርባቸዋል።

የኢሮብ ሕዝብ በሰሜን ምሥራቅ ትግራይ ከኢትዮጵያ–ኤርትራ ድንበር አካባቢ የሚኖር ኢትኖ-ሊንጉስቲክ አናሳ ማኅበረሰብ መሆኑን መጽሐፉ ይገልጻል። በቅርብ ዓመታት በአካባቢው በተከሰቱ ጦርነቶች ማኅበረሰቡ ከባድ ተጽዕኖ እንደደረሰበትም ይዳስሳል።
በመጽሐፉ አቀራረብ መሠረት፣ የኢሮብ ባህላዊና ታሪካዊ መኖሪያ አካባቢ በሁለት ሀገራት መካከል መከፈሉ የማኅበረሰቡን የግዛት ትስስር በመፈታተን ላይ እንደሚገኝ ይተነትናል።
መጽሐፉ በተለይ የኢትዮጵያ–ኤርትራ ድንበር ጦርነትና ውጤቱ በኢሮብ ማኅበረሰብ ላይ ያሳደረውን ተጽዕኖ በማተኮር የማኅበረሰቡን የመኖር ትግል ለማሳየት ይሞክራል።
የኢሮብ አስተዋጽዖ
ደራሲው በመጽሐፉ የኢሮብ ሕዝብ በኢትዮጵያ ታሪክ ውስጥ ያደረገውን አስተዋጽዖ ለማሳየት ሞክሯል።
የኢሮብ ሕዝብ ታሪክን በአካባቢያዊ የቃል ትውፊት ብቻ ሳይሆን ከኢትዮጵያ ሰፊ ታሪክ አንፃር መመልከት እንደሚገባም መጽሐፉ ያነሳል።
በዚህ ረገድ፣ ሥራው የኢሮብ ታሪክና ባህል በተለይም ለወጣቱ ትውልድ እንዲተዋወቅ የሚያግዝ የመረጃ ምንጭ ለመሆን ያለመ ነው።
የወጣቱ ትውልድ ሚና
ደራሲው በመጽሐፉ የሚያነሳው አንዱ ትልቅ ጉዳይ የወጣቱ ትውልድ የቅርስ ጥናት ላይ የሚኖረው ሚና ነው።
ያለፈውን ታሪክ ማወቅ አስፈላጊ ቢሆንም፣ የተላለፉ ትርክቶችን ያለጥያቄ ከመቀበል ይልቅ ምንጫቸውን፣ ማስረጃቸውንና ታሪካዊ አውዳቸውን መመርመር እንደሚገባ ደራሲው ያስገነዝባል።

Introduction
The main purpose of this brief appraisal of Irob society is to inspire the younger generation to engage critically with their heritage. While understanding ancestral history and culture is important, including the appreciation of time-honored legends, it is equally vital to distinguish between folklore and historical facts.
For instance, legends claiming that "King Megdir of Rome and Queen Illeni, daughter of King David of the Israelites" were ancestors of the Irob people require critical evaluation to determine their factual basis.
Similarly, the tale of Gaiysola, who, according to Irob tradition, was raised by a she-deer and nursed on her milk, and other such stories should not be taken as literal history. However, there is nothing wrong with preserving and retelling them as folklore.
Some aspects of this text may appear unconventional or even controversial, especially to those with traditional views. These elements have been included deliberately to stimulate critical thinking and to encourage thoughtful research and reflection, particularly among Irob students and the younger generation. For example, the practice of tracing genealogy from Adam to the present day and accepting it without question may not be entirely rational or reasonable. In essence, this work seeks to inspire the new generation to explore their heritage with discernment and an open mind.

The Irob people traditionally express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas through rhythmic verses known as ador (poems). A selection of these poems, chosen for their thematic relevance to the main text, is included in the appendix. Their purpose is to illustrate the popularity of the book's central figures.
The appendix also contains a small number of additional poems and eulogies that the author deemed significant. It should be noted, however, that the selection was guided primarily by the availability of material to the author, rather than by strict content or artistic criteria.
Similarly, the individuals listed as Nabara were identified through personal referrals. Their inclusion does not imply endorsement, and the list is not intended to be exhaustive. Furthermore, the few photographs and illustrations featured were selected based on their availability at the time of publication.
A collection of proverbs and riddles preserved through generations is included in the appendix to offer a glimpse into the cultural beliefs of the Irob people.
The author did not attempt to translate the poems (the ador and maiqas) but instead included them in their original language to preserve them for future local generations. To aid readability, the Saho texts are presented in both Ethiopic and Latin scripts.

The Irob people are an ethno-linguistic minority group from northeastern Tigray, Ethiopia. Situated on the Ethio-Eritrean border, this community has been uniquely devastated by the recent wars. In addition to suffering the ravages of war, the Irob have witnessed their ancestral lands and community baselessly and unjustly divided between two nations, threatening their territorial integrity and leaving their continuation as a significant ethno-political entity in question.
This book offers a rare look into the history, culture and geopolitical challenges of this little-known, fascinating minority group. It narrates theories about their origin story and details their significant contributions to the Ethiopian state throughout time. Readers will immerse themselves in Irob culture and language through pronunciation guides, photographs, vivid descriptions of cultural practices, and an appendix of poems, proverbs and riddles displaying their rich cultural heritage expressed through storytelling, poetry and oral history. Readers will also come away from this book with a deep insight into the causes and impact of the Ethio-Eritrean border war with a particular focus on how it has pushed this invaluable community to the brink of extinction.
An Irob native currently residing in the United States, the author is a lifelong Ethiopian history enthusiast who has dedicated much of his life to studying the nation’s rich history and exploring its complex political landscape.

የኢሮብ ሕዝብ ታሪክን በአካባቢያዊ የቃል ትውፊት ብቻ ሳይሆን ከኢትዮጵያ ሰፊ ታሪክ አንፃር መመልከት እንደሚገባም መጽሐፉ ያነሳል።
በዚህ ረገድ፣ ሥራው የኢሮብ ታሪክና ባህል በተለይም ለወጣቱ ትውልድ እንዲተዋወቅ የሚያግዝ የመረጃ ምንጭ ለመሆን ያለመ ነው።
የወጣቱ ትውልድ ሚና
ደራሲው በመጽሐፉ የሚያነሳው አንዱ ትልቅ ጉዳይ የወጣቱ ትውልድ የቅርስ ጥናት ላይ የሚኖረው ሚና ነው።
ያለፈውን ታሪክ ማወቅ አስፈላጊ ቢሆንም፣ የተላለፉ ትርክቶችን ያለጥያቄ ከመቀበል ይልቅ ምንጫቸውን፣ ማስረጃቸውንና ታሪካዊ አውዳቸውን መመርመር እንደሚገባ ደራሲው ያስገነዝባል።
በተለይም የዘር ሐረግን ከአዳም ጀምሮ እስከ ዛሬ ያለውን ትውልድ ያለማስረጃ መቀበል ምክንያታዊነቱን መመርመር እንደሚጠይቅ መጽሐፉ ይጠቁማል።
ይህም ሥራው የተለመዱ ትርክቶችን ብቻ ለማስተላለፍ ሳይሆን፣ የኢሮብ ወጣቶች ስለ ታሪካቸው በጥያቄ፣ በምርምርና በክፍት አስተሳሰብ እንዲያስቡ ለማነሳሳት የተዘጋጀ መሆኑን ያሳያል።

ይህ አቀራረብ አንባቢዎች የኢሮብ ሕዝብን ባህላዊ ሕይወት በተለያዩ ገጽታዎች እንዲመለከቱ ለማስቻል የታሰበ ሲሆን፣ በተለይም በቃል ትውፊት የተጠበቁ ባህላዊ ይዘቶች ለወደፊት ትውልድ እንዲተላለፉ የሚያግዝ ሰነድ ለመፍጠር ያለመ ነው።

Introduction
The main purpose of this brief appraisal of Irob society is to inspire the younger generation to engage critically with their heritage. While understanding ancestral history and culture is important, including the appreciation of time-honored legends, it is equally vital to distinguish between folklore and historical facts.
For instance, legends claiming that "King Megdir of Rome and Queen Illeni, daughter of King David of the Israelites" were ancestors of the Irob people require critical evaluation to determine their factual basis.
Similarly, the tale of Gaiysola, who, according to Irob tradition, was raised by a she-deer and nursed on her milk, and other such stories should not be taken as literal history. However, there is nothing wrong with preserving and retelling them as folklore.
Some aspects of this text may appear unconventional or even controversial, especially to those with traditional views. These elements have been included deliberately to stimulate critical thinking and to encourage thoughtful research and reflection, particularly among Irob students and the younger generation. For example, the practice of tracing genealogy from Adam to the present day and accepting it without question may not be entirely rational or reasonable. In essence, this work seeks to inspire the new generation to explore their heritage with discernment and an open mind.

The Irob people traditionally express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas through rhythmic verses known as ador (poems). A selection of these poems, chosen for their thematic relevance to the main text, is included in the appendix. Their purpose is to illustrate the popularity of the book's central figures.
The appendix also contains a small number of additional poems and eulogies that the author deemed significant. It should be noted, however, that the selection was guided primarily by the availability of material to the author, rather than by strict content or artistic criteria.
Similarly, the individuals listed as Nabara were identified through personal referrals. Their inclusion does not imply endorsement, and the list is not intended to be exhaustive. Furthermore, the few photographs and illustrations featured were selected based on their availability at the time of publication.
A collection of proverbs and riddles preserved through generations is included in the appendix to offer a glimpse into the cultural beliefs of the Irob people.
The author did not attempt to translate the poems (the ador and maiqas) but instead included them in their original language to preserve them for future local generations. To aid readability, the Saho texts are presented in both Ethiopic and Latin scripts.

The Irob people are an ethno-linguistic minority group from northeastern Tigray, Ethiopia. Situated on the Ethio-Eritrean border, this community has been uniquely devastated by the recent wars. In addition to suffering the ravages of war, the Irob have witnessed their ancestral lands and community baselessly and unjustly divided between two nations, threatening their territorial integrity and leaving their continuation as a significant ethno-political entity in question.
This book offers a rare look into the history, culture and geopolitical challenges of this little-known, fascinating minority group. It narrates theories about their origin story and details their significant contributions to the Ethiopian state throughout time. Readers will immerse themselves in Irob culture and language through pronunciation guides, photographs, vivid descriptions of cultural practices, and an appendix of poems, proverbs and riddles displaying their rich cultural heritage expressed through storytelling, poetry and oral history. Readers will also come away from this book with a deep insight into the causes and impact of the Ethio-Eritrean border war with a particular focus on how it has pushed this invaluable community to the brink of extinction.
An Irob native currently residing in the United States, the author is a lifelong Ethiopian history enthusiast who has dedicated much of his life to studying the nation’s rich history and exploring its complex political landscape.

ሰላም፣ ጤና ይስጥልኝ! ሺን ቻው ቬትናም!
የተከበራችሁ የእኛ ሊቀመንበር ወ/ሮ ጁሊያ ሞርሊ፣ አዘጋጆች፣ ዳኞች፣ የውበት ውድድር ንግሥቶች እና በመስመር ላይ እየተከታተላችሁን ያላችሁ ሁላችሁም፣ እንደምን አደራችሁ!
በምስጋና መጀመር እፈልጋለሁ። እናመሰግናለሁ። ይህን መድረክ ስለፈጠራችሁ እናመሰግናለሁ። በሚስ ወርልድ ምክንያት ዓለም እየተፈወሰ ነው። እኛ እዚህ የመጣነው እንደ ውበት ንግሥት ብቻ ለመታየት አይደለም፤ ሌሎችንም ለማየት ነው እዚህ ያለነው።
ስሜ ሩታ ይርጋለም ነው፣ እናም ውብ አገሬን ኢትዮጵያን በመወከል እዚህ ቆሜያለሁ።
ከእናንተ መካከል ኢትዮጵያ አሁን በ2018 ዓ.ም እንደምትገኝ የምታውቁ ስንቶች ናችሁ?
እሺ። አዎ! ምክንያቱም የራሳችን የዘመን አቆጣጠር ሥርዓት አለን። እኛ የሰው ልጅ መገኛ፣ የ13 ወራት ፀሐይ ምድር፣ የቡና መገኛ እና አስደናቂ መልክዓ ምድር ባለቤት ነን።
ነገር ግን ከባንዲራዬ ጀርባ፣ ወደዚህ ያመጣኝን እና ከጀርባው ያለውን ጥንካሬዬን ልንገራችሁ።
የእኔ ታሪክ በአንድ ማጣት ተጀመረ። የአንድ ዓመት ልጅ ሳለሁ እናቴን አጣሁ። አባቴ እኛን ለማሳደግና የተሻለ የወደፊት ሕይወት ለመስጠት ሕይወቱን በሙሉ ሠዋ።
እሱ በማይኖርበት ጊዜ እኔ ጥቃት ይደርስብኝ ነበር፣ እህቴም በሕመም ትሰቃይ ነበር። እኛ ግን እንደ እናታችን እሱንም እናጣዋለን ብለን ስለፈራን፣ ማንንም ነገር አልነገርንም።
እያደግን ስንሄድ፣ እህቴ ከእኔ በ5 ዓመት ትበልጥ እንደነበር ቢሆንም፣ እሷን ለመጠበቅ ተገደድኩ፤ እኔ ግን በፍቅር ነው ያደረግሁት።
እህቴ ከእኔ ጋር በአንድ ክፍል ለመማር 5 ዓመት ወደኋላ ተመለሰች። በዕድሜዋ፣ በቆዳዋ እና በክብደቷ ምክንያት ትሳለቅባት ነበር። ከእነዚህ ውስጥ አንዱንም እሷ አልመረጠችም።
እህቴን ለ8 ዓመታት እና ከዚያም በላይ ጠብቄያታለሁ። ነገር ግን አንድ ቀን፣ ወደዚህ ከመምጣቴ በፊት...
(እያለቀሰች) በጣም ይቅርታ...
ወደዚህ ከመምጣቴ በፊት፣ ለሚስ ወርልድ ጉዞዬ በምዘጋጅበት ጊዜ፣ በሕይወቴ በሙሉ ስጠብቀው የነበረ ነገር ስለሆነ በጣም ተደስቼ ነበር። እህቴ ጥሪ ደረሳት፤ እኔን ማስደሰትና ማስገረም እንደሚፈልጉ ተነገራት።
እሷም ሉሉስ ክሎዚንግ ብራንድ የተባለ የራሷ ዲዛይን ነበራት። እኔ ያደረግሁት ጉትቻም ከእሷ ሥራዎች አንዱ ነው።
እህቴ በዚያ ቀን እኔን ማስገረምና ማስደሰት ፈለገች። ከቤት ወጣች፣ ነገር ግን ዳግመኛ አልተመለሰችም።
እህቴ ታፈነች። ከዚያ በኋላ አጋቾቹ ገንዘብ መጠየቅ ጀመሩ፣ በሕይወቴ የገነባሁትን ሁሉ ሊያጠፉብኝ ሞከሩ። 9 ቀናት የፍርሃት፣ የጸሎት...
ወደዚህ ወደ ቬትናም ለሚስ ወርልድ ከመምጣቴ አንድ ሳምንት በፊት፣ በሕይወቴ የሰማሁትን እጅግ መጥፎ ዜና ሰማሁ። ለዓመታት የተንከባከብኳት እህቴ፣ ለ10 ዓመታት ቅርብ ጓደኛዬ በነበረችው ሰው እና በባልደረባዋ ተገደለች።
ይቅርታ።
እህቴ በ10 ዓመት ምርጥ ጓደኛዬ በነበረችው ሰው እና በባልደረባዋ ተገደለች። ይህች ሕይወቴን በሙሉ ተሸክሜ የኖርኩላት እህቴ ናት። ከእኔ ትልቅ ብትሆንም እንደ ሕፃን ተሸክሜያታለሁ።
በዚያ ጊዜ ወድቄ እንደወደቅሁ ተሰማኝ። ተከዳሁ። ያ ብቻ አልነበረም፤ ብዙ ጊዜ ገደሉኝ። በሚጥል በሽታ ስለምትሰቃይ የሚጥል በሽታዋ እንደገደላት አሰብኩ። ነገር ግን በዚያ ቀን እህቴ በሻንጣ ውስጥ ተገኘች። በአንድ ሻንጣ ሳይሆን፣ በሁለት ሻንጣዎች ውስጥ። ይህ ሁሉ ወደዚህ ከመምጣቴ አንድ ሳምንት በፊት ነው።
ሰዎች ጠንካራ እንድሆን ነገሩኝ። ያጣሁትን አውቃለሁ። ለምን እዚህ እንዳለሁም አውቃለሁ።
እዚህ ያለሁት ልበ-ደንዳና ሰው ስለሆንኩ አይደለም። እዚህ ያለሁት ኃላፊነት ስላለብኝ ነው። እዚህ ያለሁት በአባቴ ምክንያት፣ በእህቴ ጸሎት ምክንያት ነው። እዚህ ያለሁት መንግሥትና ኢትዮጵያውያን የሰጡኝ ኃላፊነት ስላለ ነው። ቃል ስለገባሁ ነው እዚህ ያለሁት።
ለሴቶችና ለሕፃናት ድምፅ እንደምሆንላቸው፣ እንደምደግፋቸውና እንደማበረታታቸው ቃል ገብቻለሁ። ያንን ቃል ማፍረስ አልችልም።
ስለዚህ ቦርሳዬን ጠቀለልኩ፣ ህመሜን ወደ ዓላማ ለመቀየር ስለመረጥኩ።
በእኔ ፕሮጀክት “ዘ ሳይለንት ስትራግል” (The Silent Struggle) በሴቶች ማብቃትና በወጣቶች ልማት ላይ በማተኮር፣ ጥቃት የሚደርስባቸውን ሕፃናት ለመርዳት በአገሬ ጉዞዎችን አድርጌያለሁ።
ወላጆች፣ ሕፃናት ምግብና ውሃ ብቻ አይደለም የሚፈልጉት፤ የአእምሮ ጤናም ያስፈልጋቸዋል። ያ በጣም አስፈላጊ ነው።
ዛሬ የምንጠብቃቸው ሕፃናት ነገ ዓለማችንን የሚመሩ ትውልዶች ናቸው።
በሴቶች ማብቃት ረገድም፣ በኢትዮጵያ ከዶ/ር ካትሪን ሃምሊን ፊስቱላ ማዕከል ጋር በመሆን በፊስቱላ የሚሰቃዩ ሴቶችን እየረዳሁ ነው።
አስቡት፤ አንዲት ሴት ልጅ ከወለደች በኋላ በሽንትና በሰገራ መፍሰስ ችግር ትቀራለች።
እኔ እዚህ ያለሁት ለእነርሱ ድምፅ ለመሆንና ግንዛቤ ለመፍጠር ነው። እነዚህ ሴቶች በባሎቻቸው፣ በማኅበረሰባቸው እና በሌሎችም እየተገለሉ ነው።
በፊስቱላ የተጠቃች ሴትን መፈወስ በሽታውን ማከም ብቻ አይደለም፤ ክብሯንና የሴትነት አቅሟን መመለስም ነው።
መርሄ ይህ ነው፦ “ሌሎች እንዲያበሩ የሚረዳ ብርሃን ሁን።”
በኢትዮጵያ “ወርቅ በእሳት ይፈተናል” እንላለን። ይህ ማለት የወርቅ ዋጋው እስኪታወቅ ድረስ በእሳት ይፈተናል ማለት ነው።
እኔም በእሳት ተፈትኛለሁ፣ ግን ያ እሳት አላጠፋኝም። ጥንካሬዬንና ዓላማዬን ከፍ አደረገው።
ስለዚህ ለእያንዳንዷ ሴት፣ ለእያንዳንዱ ሕፃን እና ዛሬ እዚህ ሆኜ ስናገር ለሚመለከቱኝ ሁሉ፦ ልትሰበሩ ትችላላችሁ፣ ግን ሳትሸነፉ።
አንድ ሰው ጉዞዎን ሊያግድ ይሞክር ይሆናል፣ ግን የመጨረሻ መጨረሻችሁን የሚጽፈው እሱ አይደለም። እግዚአብሔር ነው። እግዚአብሔር የመጨረሻችሁን ያውቃል።
እኔ ሩታ ይርጋለም ነኝ።

I want to start by saying thank you. Thank you for creating this platform. Because of Miss World, the world is healing. We are not only here to be seen as a beauty queen, but we are here to see others.
My name is Ruta Yirgalem, and I am representing my beautiful country, Ethiopia.
How many of you know that Ethiopia is in the year of 2018?
All right. Yeah! Because we have our own calendar system. We are the cradle of humankind, 13 months of sunshine, the birthplace of coffee, and a breathtaking landscape.
But behind my flag, let me tell you what brought me here, my strength behind it.
My story began with a loss. I lost my mother when I was one. My father sacrificed his all life to raise us and give us a better future.
While he was not around, I used to be abused, and my sister used to go through illness. We didn't say anything because of a fear of losing him like my mom, and us being left alone.
While growing up, even though my sister is 5 years older than me, I was forced to protect her, but I would love it.
My sister went back 5 years behind and sat on a chair with me in a class. She used to be bullied of her age, her skin, and her weight. She didn't choose any of it.
I protected my sister for 8 years and 1 plus. But one day, before coming here...
(crying) I'm really sorry.
Before coming here, while I'm preparing for Miss World journey, I was so excited because it's something I've been waiting for my whole life. My sister got a call, she was told that they wanted to surprise me. And she have a design called Lulu's Clothing Brand. The earring that I'm wearing is one of her piece.
My sister that day, she wanted to surprise me and make me happy. She left the house, but she never came back.
My sister got kidnapped. But after that, kidnappers started asking for money and tried to make me lose whatever I built in my life. 9 days of fear, prayers... Just a week before coming here for Miss World in Vietnam, I got the baddest news in my life. The sister I cared for years, she got killed by my best friend of 10 years.
I'm sorry.
My sister got killed by my best friend of 10 years that I believed, with her partner. That's the sister I carried for my entire life. Even though she's my biggest sister, I carried her like a baby.
That time, I felt like I failed. I got betrayed. Not only that part, they killed me a lot of times. I thought the seizure killed her because she have an epilepsy. But that day, my sister was found in a suitcase. Not in one, but in two. Just before a week coming here.
People told me to be strong. I know what I lost. I know why I'm here.
I'm here not because I'm a cold-hearted person. I'm here because I have a responsibility. I'm here because of my father, my sister's prayer. I am here because of the responsibility the government and Ethiopians gave me. I am here because I made a promise. I made a promise for women and children that I will advocate for them and cheer for them. I cannot break that.
So I packed my bags because I choose to leave and change my pain to a purpose.
Through my project, The Silent Struggle with women empowerment and youth development, I did a tour in my country so that I can help children that get abused.
Parents, children don't only need food, water—they also need mental health. That matters a lot. The children we protect today are the generation that will lead our world tomorrow.
And with women empowerment, I am helping women with fistula with Dr. Catherine Hamlin Fistula Center in Ethiopia. Imagine a woman giving birth, but she's left of leaking urine and stool.
I am here to advocate for them and create awareness. These women are being isolated by their husband, by their community, and more.
Healing a girl with fistula is not only treating the disease, it's also giving their dignity and women empowerment back.
My motto is: "Be the light that helps others shine."
In Ethiopia we say: "ወርቅ በእሳት ይፈተናል" (Gold is tested by fire). That means a gold is tested by a fire until it's known its value. I have been tested by a fire, but the fire didn't destroy me. It elevated my strength and my purpose.
So to every woman, every child, and everyone watching here today when I speak: You can be broken without being defeated.
Someone will try to block your journey, but they do not write your ending. It's God. God knows your ending.

የተከበራችሁ የእኛ ሊቀመንበር ወ/ሮ ጁሊያ ሞርሊ፣ አዘጋጆች፣ ዳኞች፣ የውበት ውድድር ንግሥቶች እና በመስመር ላይ እየተከታተላችሁን ያላችሁ ሁላችሁም፣ እንደምን አደራችሁ!
በምስጋና መጀመር እፈልጋለሁ። እናመሰግናለሁ። ይህን መድረክ ስለፈጠራችሁ እናመሰግናለሁ። በሚስ ወርልድ ምክንያት ዓለም እየተፈወሰ ነው። እኛ እዚህ የመጣነው እንደ ውበት ንግሥት ብቻ ለመታየት አይደለም፤ ሌሎችንም ለማየት ነው እዚህ ያለነው።
ስሜ ሩታ ይርጋለም ነው፣ እናም ውብ አገሬን ኢትዮጵያን በመወከል እዚህ ቆሜያለሁ።
ከእናንተ መካከል ኢትዮጵያ አሁን በ2018 ዓ.ም እንደምትገኝ የምታውቁ ስንቶች ናችሁ?
እሺ። አዎ! ምክንያቱም የራሳችን የዘመን አቆጣጠር ሥርዓት አለን። እኛ የሰው ልጅ መገኛ፣ የ13 ወራት ፀሐይ ምድር፣ የቡና መገኛ እና አስደናቂ መልክዓ ምድር ባለቤት ነን።
ነገር ግን ከባንዲራዬ ጀርባ፣ ወደዚህ ያመጣኝን እና ከጀርባው ያለውን ጥንካሬዬን ልንገራችሁ።
የእኔ ታሪክ በአንድ ማጣት ተጀመረ። የአንድ ዓመት ልጅ ሳለሁ እናቴን አጣሁ። አባቴ እኛን ለማሳደግና የተሻለ የወደፊት ሕይወት ለመስጠት ሕይወቱን በሙሉ ሠዋ።
እሱ በማይኖርበት ጊዜ እኔ ጥቃት ይደርስብኝ ነበር፣ እህቴም በሕመም ትሰቃይ ነበር። እኛ ግን እንደ እናታችን እሱንም እናጣዋለን ብለን ስለፈራን፣ ማንንም ነገር አልነገርንም።
እያደግን ስንሄድ፣ እህቴ ከእኔ በ5 ዓመት ትበልጥ እንደነበር ቢሆንም፣ እሷን ለመጠበቅ ተገደድኩ፤ እኔ ግን በፍቅር ነው ያደረግሁት።
እህቴ ከእኔ ጋር በአንድ ክፍል ለመማር 5 ዓመት ወደኋላ ተመለሰች። በዕድሜዋ፣ በቆዳዋ እና በክብደቷ ምክንያት ትሳለቅባት ነበር። ከእነዚህ ውስጥ አንዱንም እሷ አልመረጠችም።
እህቴን ለ8 ዓመታት እና ከዚያም በላይ ጠብቄያታለሁ። ነገር ግን አንድ ቀን፣ ወደዚህ ከመምጣቴ በፊት...
(እያለቀሰች) በጣም ይቅርታ...
ወደዚህ ከመምጣቴ በፊት፣ ለሚስ ወርልድ ጉዞዬ በምዘጋጅበት ጊዜ፣ በሕይወቴ በሙሉ ስጠብቀው የነበረ ነገር ስለሆነ በጣም ተደስቼ ነበር። እህቴ ጥሪ ደረሳት፤ እኔን ማስደሰትና ማስገረም እንደሚፈልጉ ተነገራት።
እሷም ሉሉስ ክሎዚንግ ብራንድ የተባለ የራሷ ዲዛይን ነበራት። እኔ ያደረግሁት ጉትቻም ከእሷ ሥራዎች አንዱ ነው።
እህቴ በዚያ ቀን እኔን ማስገረምና ማስደሰት ፈለገች። ከቤት ወጣች፣ ነገር ግን ዳግመኛ አልተመለሰችም።
እህቴ ታፈነች። ከዚያ በኋላ አጋቾቹ ገንዘብ መጠየቅ ጀመሩ፣ በሕይወቴ የገነባሁትን ሁሉ ሊያጠፉብኝ ሞከሩ። 9 ቀናት የፍርሃት፣ የጸሎት...
ወደዚህ ወደ ቬትናም ለሚስ ወርልድ ከመምጣቴ አንድ ሳምንት በፊት፣ በሕይወቴ የሰማሁትን እጅግ መጥፎ ዜና ሰማሁ። ለዓመታት የተንከባከብኳት እህቴ፣ ለ10 ዓመታት ቅርብ ጓደኛዬ በነበረችው ሰው እና በባልደረባዋ ተገደለች።
ይቅርታ።
እህቴ በ10 ዓመት ምርጥ ጓደኛዬ በነበረችው ሰው እና በባልደረባዋ ተገደለች። ይህች ሕይወቴን በሙሉ ተሸክሜ የኖርኩላት እህቴ ናት። ከእኔ ትልቅ ብትሆንም እንደ ሕፃን ተሸክሜያታለሁ።
በዚያ ጊዜ ወድቄ እንደወደቅሁ ተሰማኝ። ተከዳሁ። ያ ብቻ አልነበረም፤ ብዙ ጊዜ ገደሉኝ። በሚጥል በሽታ ስለምትሰቃይ የሚጥል በሽታዋ እንደገደላት አሰብኩ። ነገር ግን በዚያ ቀን እህቴ በሻንጣ ውስጥ ተገኘች። በአንድ ሻንጣ ሳይሆን፣ በሁለት ሻንጣዎች ውስጥ። ይህ ሁሉ ወደዚህ ከመምጣቴ አንድ ሳምንት በፊት ነው።
ሰዎች ጠንካራ እንድሆን ነገሩኝ። ያጣሁትን አውቃለሁ። ለምን እዚህ እንዳለሁም አውቃለሁ።
እዚህ ያለሁት ልበ-ደንዳና ሰው ስለሆንኩ አይደለም። እዚህ ያለሁት ኃላፊነት ስላለብኝ ነው። እዚህ ያለሁት በአባቴ ምክንያት፣ በእህቴ ጸሎት ምክንያት ነው። እዚህ ያለሁት መንግሥትና ኢትዮጵያውያን የሰጡኝ ኃላፊነት ስላለ ነው። ቃል ስለገባሁ ነው እዚህ ያለሁት።
ለሴቶችና ለሕፃናት ድምፅ እንደምሆንላቸው፣ እንደምደግፋቸውና እንደማበረታታቸው ቃል ገብቻለሁ። ያንን ቃል ማፍረስ አልችልም።
ስለዚህ ቦርሳዬን ጠቀለልኩ፣ ህመሜን ወደ ዓላማ ለመቀየር ስለመረጥኩ።
በእኔ ፕሮጀክት “ዘ ሳይለንት ስትራግል” (The Silent Struggle) በሴቶች ማብቃትና በወጣቶች ልማት ላይ በማተኮር፣ ጥቃት የሚደርስባቸውን ሕፃናት ለመርዳት በአገሬ ጉዞዎችን አድርጌያለሁ።
ወላጆች፣ ሕፃናት ምግብና ውሃ ብቻ አይደለም የሚፈልጉት፤ የአእምሮ ጤናም ያስፈልጋቸዋል። ያ በጣም አስፈላጊ ነው።
ዛሬ የምንጠብቃቸው ሕፃናት ነገ ዓለማችንን የሚመሩ ትውልዶች ናቸው።
በሴቶች ማብቃት ረገድም፣ በኢትዮጵያ ከዶ/ር ካትሪን ሃምሊን ፊስቱላ ማዕከል ጋር በመሆን በፊስቱላ የሚሰቃዩ ሴቶችን እየረዳሁ ነው።
አስቡት፤ አንዲት ሴት ልጅ ከወለደች በኋላ በሽንትና በሰገራ መፍሰስ ችግር ትቀራለች።
እኔ እዚህ ያለሁት ለእነርሱ ድምፅ ለመሆንና ግንዛቤ ለመፍጠር ነው። እነዚህ ሴቶች በባሎቻቸው፣ በማኅበረሰባቸው እና በሌሎችም እየተገለሉ ነው።
በፊስቱላ የተጠቃች ሴትን መፈወስ በሽታውን ማከም ብቻ አይደለም፤ ክብሯንና የሴትነት አቅሟን መመለስም ነው።
መርሄ ይህ ነው፦ “ሌሎች እንዲያበሩ የሚረዳ ብርሃን ሁን።”
በኢትዮጵያ “ወርቅ በእሳት ይፈተናል” እንላለን። ይህ ማለት የወርቅ ዋጋው እስኪታወቅ ድረስ በእሳት ይፈተናል ማለት ነው።
እኔም በእሳት ተፈትኛለሁ፣ ግን ያ እሳት አላጠፋኝም። ጥንካሬዬንና ዓላማዬን ከፍ አደረገው።
ስለዚህ ለእያንዳንዷ ሴት፣ ለእያንዳንዱ ሕፃን እና ዛሬ እዚህ ሆኜ ስናገር ለሚመለከቱኝ ሁሉ፦ ልትሰበሩ ትችላላችሁ፣ ግን ሳትሸነፉ።
አንድ ሰው ጉዞዎን ሊያግድ ይሞክር ይሆናል፣ ግን የመጨረሻ መጨረሻችሁን የሚጽፈው እሱ አይደለም። እግዚአብሔር ነው። እግዚአብሔር የመጨረሻችሁን ያውቃል።
እኔ ሩታ ይርጋለም ነኝ።
እኔ የተስፋ ፊት ነኝ።
እኔ ሚስ ወርልድ ኢትዮጵያ 2026 ነኝ።

I want to start by saying thank you. Thank you for creating this platform. Because of Miss World, the world is healing. We are not only here to be seen as a beauty queen, but we are here to see others.
My name is Ruta Yirgalem, and I am representing my beautiful country, Ethiopia.
How many of you know that Ethiopia is in the year of 2018?
All right. Yeah! Because we have our own calendar system. We are the cradle of humankind, 13 months of sunshine, the birthplace of coffee, and a breathtaking landscape.
But behind my flag, let me tell you what brought me here, my strength behind it.
My story began with a loss. I lost my mother when I was one. My father sacrificed his all life to raise us and give us a better future.
While he was not around, I used to be abused, and my sister used to go through illness. We didn't say anything because of a fear of losing him like my mom, and us being left alone.
While growing up, even though my sister is 5 years older than me, I was forced to protect her, but I would love it.
My sister went back 5 years behind and sat on a chair with me in a class. She used to be bullied of her age, her skin, and her weight. She didn't choose any of it.
I protected my sister for 8 years and 1 plus. But one day, before coming here...
(crying) I'm really sorry.
Before coming here, while I'm preparing for Miss World journey, I was so excited because it's something I've been waiting for my whole life. My sister got a call, she was told that they wanted to surprise me. And she have a design called Lulu's Clothing Brand. The earring that I'm wearing is one of her piece.
My sister that day, she wanted to surprise me and make me happy. She left the house, but she never came back.
My sister got kidnapped. But after that, kidnappers started asking for money and tried to make me lose whatever I built in my life. 9 days of fear, prayers... Just a week before coming here for Miss World in Vietnam, I got the baddest news in my life. The sister I cared for years, she got killed by my best friend of 10 years.
I'm sorry.
My sister got killed by my best friend of 10 years that I believed, with her partner. That's the sister I carried for my entire life. Even though she's my biggest sister, I carried her like a baby.
That time, I felt like I failed. I got betrayed. Not only that part, they killed me a lot of times. I thought the seizure killed her because she have an epilepsy. But that day, my sister was found in a suitcase. Not in one, but in two. Just before a week coming here.
People told me to be strong. I know what I lost. I know why I'm here.
I'm here not because I'm a cold-hearted person. I'm here because I have a responsibility. I'm here because of my father, my sister's prayer. I am here because of the responsibility the government and Ethiopians gave me. I am here because I made a promise. I made a promise for women and children that I will advocate for them and cheer for them. I cannot break that.
So I packed my bags because I choose to leave and change my pain to a purpose.
Through my project, The Silent Struggle with women empowerment and youth development, I did a tour in my country so that I can help children that get abused.
Parents, children don't only need food, water—they also need mental health. That matters a lot. The children we protect today are the generation that will lead our world tomorrow.
And with women empowerment, I am helping women with fistula with Dr. Catherine Hamlin Fistula Center in Ethiopia. Imagine a woman giving birth, but she's left of leaking urine and stool.
I am here to advocate for them and create awareness. These women are being isolated by their husband, by their community, and more.
Healing a girl with fistula is not only treating the disease, it's also giving their dignity and women empowerment back.
My motto is: "Be the light that helps others shine."
In Ethiopia we say: "ወርቅ በእሳት ይፈተናል" (Gold is tested by fire). That means a gold is tested by a fire until it's known its value. I have been tested by a fire, but the fire didn't destroy me. It elevated my strength and my purpose.
So to every woman, every child, and everyone watching here today when I speak: You can be broken without being defeated.
Someone will try to block your journey, but they do not write your ending. It's God. God knows your ending.

የነቢይ መኮንን የጥበብ በረከቶች

አፈንዲ ሙተቂ

ተወዳጁ ጋዜጠኛ፣ ገጣሚ እና ተርጓሚ ነቢይ መኮንን ያረፈው የዛሬ ሁለት ዓመት በዚህ ቀን ነበር። ነቢይ በሕይወት ሳለ የሰራቸው የጽሑፍና የጥበብ በረከቶች የትኞቹ ናቸው? ባዮግራፊው በትክክል ስላልተጻፈ ሁሉንም ማስፈር ይከብዳል። ሆኖም የሚከተሉትን አስታውሳለሁ።

1. "ነገም ሌላ ቀን ነው"
በአሜሪካዊቷ ደራሲ ማርጋሬት ሚቸል የተጻፈውን "Gone with the Wind" የተሰኘ ታላቅ ድርሰት በአማርኛ ቋንቋ የተረጎመበት ድንቅ መጽሐፍ ነው። ይሁንና ነቢይ ያሳተመው የመጽሐፉን የመጀመሪያ ክፍል ብቻ ነው። ሁለተኛውን ክፍል ስለማሳተሙ መረጃው የለኝም። ነቢይ መጽሐፉን የተረጎመው ለአስር ዓመታት ያህል በማዕከላዊ እና በከርቸሌ በታሰረበት ዘመን በሲጃራ ፓኮዎችና በብጥስጣሽ ወረቀቶች ላይ እየጻፈ ነው።

2. "ናትናኤል ጠቢቡ"
ጀርመናዊው ጸሐፊ ተውኔት Gotthold Ephraim Lessing የጻፈውን "Nathan der Weise" የተሰኘ ቴአትር ወደ አማርኛ የተረጎመበት ርእስ ነው። ቴአትሩ በብዙ የዓለም ሀገሮች "Natahn the Wise" በሚለው የእንግሊዝኛ ስሙ ነው የሚታወቀው። በተውኔት ታሪክ በብዙ ቋንቋዎች ከተተረጎሙት ምርጥ ቴአትሮችም አንዱ ነው።
ነቢይ የተረጎመው ተውኔት በብሄራዊ ቴአትር ይታይ ነበር። ቴአትሩ በሙስሊሞች፣ በአይሁዶች እና በክርስቲያኖች መካከል የሀይማኖት መቻቻል እንዲኖር ነው የሚያስተምረው።

3. "ባለ ጉዳይ"
በኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥን ተደጋግሞ የታየ Satirical ድራማ ነው። ድራማው በኢትዮጵያ ሲቪል ሰርቪስ ውስጥ የሰፈነውን የጠነዛ ቢሮክራሲ እና የጉቦ አሰራር በአስቂኝ መንገድ የሚያሳይ ነው። የድራማው ዋና ገጸ-ባሕሪ "ቀናው ተበጀ" ይባላል። እርሱን ሆኖ የሰራው አክተር ደግሞ ፍቃዱ ተክለማሪያም ነው። በዚህም የተነሳ ፈቃዱ በድራማው ውስጥ የተጠራበት ስም "ቀናው ተበጀ" ቅጽል ስሙ ሆኖ ነበር።

4. "ማፍቀር ነው መሰልጠን"
HIV- AIDS የሀገር አደጋ በሆነበት ዘመን ነቢይ መኮንን "ከቫይረሱ ጋር የሚኖሩትን ማግለል በሽታውን ያባብሳል። ስለዚህ ፍቅር እንስጣቸው። አናግልላቸው" የሚል መልእክት ያለው ግጥም ገጥሞ የዘመኑ ወጣት ዘፋኞች እንዲዘፍኑት አድርጎአል። የዘፈኑ መጠሪያ "ማፍቀር ነው መሰልጠን" ሲሆን በኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥን በተደጋጋሚ ይታይ ነበር።
ታዲያ ባላወቅኩት ሁኔታ ብዙዎች ግጥሙን የጻፈው ነቢይ መኮንን መሆኑን ሳይገልጹ ስራውን ሙሉ በሙሉ በዜማ ደራሲው አርቲስት ሚካኤል በላይነህ ስም ያወሱታል። ይህ ስሕተት መታረም አለበት።

5. ስውር ስፌት
ነቢያ የገጠማቸውን ግጥሞች ያሰባሰበበት ባለ ሁለት ክፍል መድብል ነው። በዚያ መድብል ከሰፈሩት ግጥሞች መካከል ይህኛው ግሩም ነው።

6. "የኛ ሰው በአሜሪካ"
ነቢይ መኮንን አሜሪካ በሄደበት ጊዜ በዚያ ስለሚኖሩት ኢትዮጵያዊያን የጻፈው አስገራሚ፣ አስቂኝ እና አስተማሪ የጉዞ ማስታወሻ ነው። ማስታወሻው መጀመሪያ በአዲስ አድማስ ጋዜጣ ላይ በተከታታይ ከቀረበ በኋላ በ1997 ገደማ በአንድ መጽሐፍ ታትሞ ወጥቷል።

7. "የዳቪንቺ ኮድ"
ነቢይ በ1999-2000 ዳን ብራውን የጻፈውንና በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ከፍተኛ መነጋገሪያ ሆኖ የነበረውን "The Davinci Code" የተሰኘ መጽሐፍ ወደ አማርኛ ተርጉሞ በአዲስ አድማስ ጋዜጣ በተከታታይ ያስነብብ ነበር። እኛም ትርጉሙን በአንድ መጽሐፍ እንዲያሳትም ነግረነዋል። ይሁንና መጽሐፉ የታተመ አይመስለኝም።

8. "ነገር የገባት ሰጎን"
አትሌት ጥሩነሽ ዲባባ በ1995 በፓሪስ ከተማ በተካሄደው የዓለም አትሌቲክስ ሻምፒዮና ለሀገሯ የወርቅ ሜዳሊያ ስታስገኝ በመላው ሕዝባችን ስሜት ላይ ከፍተኛ ደስታ ነው የፈጠረችው። ነቢይ መኮንንም ደስታው ፍንቅል ብሎ ወጥቶ ለጥሩነሽ ያለውን አድናቆት "ነገር የገባት ሰጎን" በሚል ግጥም ገልጾላታል። ግጥሙም በአዲስ አድማስ ጋዜጣ ወጥቶ ከፍተኛ መነጋገሪያ ሆኖ ነበር።
ጥሩነሽ ከአምስት ዓመታት በኋላ በቤጂንግ ኦሊምፒክ ለሀገሯ የወርቅ ሜዳሊያ ስታስገኝ ነቢይ ስሜቱን የገለጸበትን "ነገር የገባት ሰጎን- ቁጥር ሁለት" የሚል ርእስ ያለው ግጥም በአዲስ አድማስ ጋዜጣ አስነብቦናል።

ተወዳጁ ጋዜጠኛ፣ ገጣሚ እና ተርጓሚ ነቢይ መኮንን ያረፈው የዛሬ ሁለት ዓመት በዚህ ቀን ነበር። ነቢይ በሕይወት ሳለ የሰራቸው የጽሑፍና የጥበብ በረከቶች የትኞቹ ናቸው? ባዮግራፊው በትክክል ስላልተጻፈ ሁሉንም ማስፈር ይከብዳል። ሆኖም የሚከተሉትን አስታውሳለሁ።

1. "ነገም ሌላ ቀን ነው"
በአሜሪካዊቷ ደራሲ ማርጋሬት ሚቸል የተጻፈውን "Gone with the Wind" የተሰኘ ታላቅ ድርሰት በአማርኛ ቋንቋ የተረጎመበት ድንቅ መጽሐፍ ነው። ይሁንና ነቢይ ያሳተመው የመጽሐፉን የመጀመሪያ ክፍል ብቻ ነው። ሁለተኛውን ክፍል ስለማሳተሙ መረጃው የለኝም። ነቢይ መጽሐፉን የተረጎመው ለአስር ዓመታት ያህል በማዕከላዊ እና በከርቸሌ በታሰረበት ዘመን በሲጃራ ፓኮዎችና በብጥስጣሽ ወረቀቶች ላይ እየጻፈ ነው።

2. "ናትናኤል ጠቢቡ"
ጀርመናዊው ጸሐፊ ተውኔት Gotthold Ephraim Lessing የጻፈውን "Nathan der Weise" የተሰኘ ቴአትር ወደ አማርኛ የተረጎመበት ርእስ ነው። ቴአትሩ በብዙ የዓለም ሀገሮች "Natahn the Wise" በሚለው የእንግሊዝኛ ስሙ ነው የሚታወቀው። በተውኔት ታሪክ በብዙ ቋንቋዎች ከተተረጎሙት ምርጥ ቴአትሮችም አንዱ ነው።
ነቢይ የተረጎመው ተውኔት በብሄራዊ ቴአትር ይታይ ነበር። ቴአትሩ በሙስሊሞች፣ በአይሁዶች እና በክርስቲያኖች መካከል የሀይማኖት መቻቻል እንዲኖር ነው የሚያስተምረው።

3. "ባለ ጉዳይ"
በኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥን ተደጋግሞ የታየ Satirical ድራማ ነው። ድራማው በኢትዮጵያ ሲቪል ሰርቪስ ውስጥ የሰፈነውን የጠነዛ ቢሮክራሲ እና የጉቦ አሰራር በአስቂኝ መንገድ የሚያሳይ ነው። የድራማው ዋና ገጸ-ባሕሪ "ቀናው ተበጀ" ይባላል። እርሱን ሆኖ የሰራው አክተር ደግሞ ፍቃዱ ተክለማሪያም ነው። በዚህም የተነሳ ፈቃዱ በድራማው ውስጥ የተጠራበት ስም "ቀናው ተበጀ" ቅጽል ስሙ ሆኖ ነበር።

4. "ማፍቀር ነው መሰልጠን"
HIV- AIDS የሀገር አደጋ በሆነበት ዘመን ነቢይ መኮንን "ከቫይረሱ ጋር የሚኖሩትን ማግለል በሽታውን ያባብሳል። ስለዚህ ፍቅር እንስጣቸው። አናግልላቸው" የሚል መልእክት ያለው ግጥም ገጥሞ የዘመኑ ወጣት ዘፋኞች እንዲዘፍኑት አድርጎአል። የዘፈኑ መጠሪያ "ማፍቀር ነው መሰልጠን" ሲሆን በኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥን በተደጋጋሚ ይታይ ነበር።
ታዲያ ባላወቅኩት ሁኔታ ብዙዎች ግጥሙን የጻፈው ነቢይ መኮንን መሆኑን ሳይገልጹ ስራውን ሙሉ በሙሉ በዜማ ደራሲው አርቲስት ሚካኤል በላይነህ ስም ያወሱታል። ይህ ስሕተት መታረም አለበት።

5. ስውር ስፌት
ነቢያ የገጠማቸውን ግጥሞች ያሰባሰበበት ባለ ሁለት ክፍል መድብል ነው። በዚያ መድብል ከሰፈሩት ግጥሞች መካከል ይህኛው ግሩም ነው።

6. "የኛ ሰው በአሜሪካ"
ነቢይ መኮንን አሜሪካ በሄደበት ጊዜ በዚያ ስለሚኖሩት ኢትዮጵያዊያን የጻፈው አስገራሚ፣ አስቂኝ እና አስተማሪ የጉዞ ማስታወሻ ነው። ማስታወሻው መጀመሪያ በአዲስ አድማስ ጋዜጣ ላይ በተከታታይ ከቀረበ በኋላ በ1997 ገደማ በአንድ መጽሐፍ ታትሞ ወጥቷል።

ነቢይ በ1999-2000 ዳን ብራውን የጻፈውንና በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ከፍተኛ መነጋገሪያ ሆኖ የነበረውን "The Davinci Code" የተሰኘ መጽሐፍ ወደ አማርኛ ተርጉሞ በአዲስ አድማስ ጋዜጣ በተከታታይ ያስነብብ ነበር። እኛም ትርጉሙን በአንድ መጽሐፍ እንዲያሳትም ነግረነዋል። ይሁንና መጽሐፉ የታተመ አይመስለኝም።

ፕሮፌሰሩ ለአርባ አምስት ዓመታት በዘለቀው ሙያዊ ሕይወታቸው በአርባ ሁለት የአፍሪካ ሀገራት እየተዘዋወሩ በበጎ ፈቃደኝነት የሕክምና አገልግሎት የሰጡ ሲሆን፣ በኦርቶፔዲክስ (የአጥንት) እና በዴርማቶሎጂ (የቆዳ) ሕክምና ስፔሻሊስት ነበሩ።
በሱዳን የሚገኘውን ትልቅ ሆስፒታል ጣሊያኖች በሚገነቡበት ወቅት ከፍተኛ የገንዘብ ፈንድ በማምጣት ረገድ የላቀ አስተዋጽኦ አበርክተዋል።
በሀገራችን ኢትዮጵያም ለሀያ ዓመታት ያህል ያገለገሉ ሲሆን፣ የአዳማ አጠቃላይ ሆስፒታልን በማቋቋም የመጀመሪያው ዳይሬክተር በመሆን ሰርተዋል።
በተጨማሪም በዳኑ ሆስፒታል፣ በአቤት ሆስፒታል ድንገተኛ አደጋ ክፍል በአጥንት ስፔሻሊስትነት የሰሩ ሲሆን፣ በየዓመቱ ከጣሊያን ወደ ወሊሶ ሆስፒታል እየመጡ ሰፊ የኦፕራሲዮን ሕክምና አገልግሎት በነፃ ይሰጡ ነበር።
ፕሮፌሰር ኤንሪኮ የሰውን ልጅ በዘር፣ በቋንቋ፣ በቆዳ ቀለምና በሃይማኖት የማይለዩ ፍፁም የሰብአዊነት ተምሳሌት ነበሩ። በአውሮፓ የኮሶቮ ጦርነት ወቅት የአንድ ዓመት ደሞዛቸውን በመተው በጦርነቱ መሃል በነፃ የሕክምና አገልግሎት የሰጡ ሲሆን፣ በኢትዮ-ኤርትራ ጦርነት ወቅትም በመጀመሪያዎቹ አምስት ጣሊያናውያን የሕክምና ባለሙያዎች ቡድን ውስጥ በመሆን በሄሊኮፕተር ወደ ስፍራው ያቀኑ ታላቅ ባለውለታ ናቸው።
በጣሊያን ሚላኖ "ናጋ" የተሰኘ የሕክምና ማዕከል በማቋቋምም አፍሪካውያንና የሌሎች ሀገራት ስደተኞችን፣ በተለይም የሕጋዊ ሰነድና የገንዘብ አቅም የሌላቸውን ወገኖች በነፃ ሲያክሙ ቆይተዋል።
ብዙዎች ስለ ሀገር ሲያነሱ "የአባት ሀገር" ወይም "የእናት ሀገር" ቢሉም፣ ፕሮፌሰሩ ግን ለኢትዮጵያ የነበራቸው ፍቅር ጥልቅ በመሆኑ ሁልጊዜም "የልጄ የካሌብ ሀገር" በማለት በኩራት ይገልጿት ነበር።
ስለ ኢትዮጵያ ታሪክ፣ ባህልና ወታደራዊ ታሪክ በርካታ ምርምሮችን ያደረጉት ፕሮፌሰሩ፣ በአጠቃላይ ከ46 በላይ መጻሕፍትን በኢንግሊዘኛና በጣሊያንኛ ቋንቋዎች አሳትመዋል።
ከእነዚህም መካከል "The History of Imperial Ethiopian Army" የተሰኘውና ለኢትዮጵያ ወታደራዊ ምርምር ማዕከል ያበረከቱት መጽሐፍ፣ "ደስታስ ይርስ ኤንድ ላይፍ 1892-1937" እና "Aethiopia la moneta Africana" የሚሉት ተጠቃሽ ናቸው። የቡና አመጣጥ ከኢትዮጵያ መሆኑን ለአለም ካስተዋወቁበት ስራቸው ባሻገር የዘመነ መሳፍንትን ፍፃሜ የሚያሳይ ታሪካዊ መጽሐፍ ይጠቀሳሉ።
እኝህ ታላቅ ምሁር ስኮላር፣ ዶክተር፣ የሚሊተሪ ኦፊሰር እና ደራሲ ብቻ ሳይሆኑ፣ በሚላኖ ካቶሊክ ዩኒቨርሲቲ "ትንሹ ልዑል" የተሰኘውን የሕጻናት መጽሐፍ በ55 ዓለም አቀፍ ቋንቋዎች በመተርጎም ያሳተሙ ተርጓሚና ድንቅ የቅብ ሥራዎችን ያበረከቱ ሰዓሊም ነበሩ።
ምንም እንኳን ሞት በድንገት ከሚወዷቸው ባለቤታቸው ወይዘሮ ሳራ የማነ እና ከልጃቸው ካሌብ ጆርጂ ቢለያቸውም፣ ያኖሩት ታላቅ አሻራ ግን ከመቃብር በላይ ሁሌም ሕያው ሆኖ ይኖራል።
ባለቤታቸውና ልጃቸው የፕሮፌሰሩን ውርስና ሌጋሲ ለማስቀጠል፣ እሳቸው ሳይታተሙ የተዉትንና ስለ ኢትዮጵያ ጉዳይ በአምስት መቶ አምስት መቶ ገጾች የተቀነበቡ ሁለት አዳዲስ መጻሕፍትን ለሕትመት ለማብቃት እየተንቀሳቀሱ ይገኛሉ።
ፕሮፌሰሩ ኢትዮጵያን የመወደዳቸው ምዕራፍ የተገለጠው፤ የተጀመረው በባለቤታቸውና በልጃቸው እንደሆነ ይናገሩ ነበር። በዚህ መሠረት ቤተሰቦቻቸው በኢትዮጵያ ምድር በስማቸው ሙዚየም ለመክፈት አልያም በእርሳቸው የተሰሩ ሥራዎችን እንዲሁም ልዩ ልዩ ቁሳቁሶችን ለኢትዮጵያ ብሔራዊ ሙዚየም ለማበርከት ሰፊ እንቅስቃሴ ላይ ናቸው።

In Memory of Professor Colonel Enrico Piero Bossi
Italian scholar and human rights advocate
His wife, Mrs. Sara Yemane, and their son, Caleb Giorgi, are working to preserve and continue his legacy.
#ethiopia | The renowned Italian scholar, Professor Colonel Enrico Piero Bossi (M.D.), who dedicated many years of his life in Africa and Ethiopia through his medical profession, authorship, and humanitarian activities, helping vulnerable and disadvantaged communities, passed away at the age of 81 on June 17, 2024.
During his distinguished 45-year professional career, Professor Bossi volunteered medical services across 42 African countries. He was a specialist in Orthopedics (bone and musculoskeletal medicine) and Dermatology (skin medicine).
He made a significant contribution to securing major funding for the construction of a large hospital in Sudan built by Italian organizations.
In Ethiopia, where he served for nearly twenty years, he played a key role in establishing Adama General Hospital and served as its first director.
Additionally, he worked as an orthopedic specialist at Danu Hospital and in the Emergency Department of Abet Hospital. Every year, he traveled from Italy to Woliso Hospital, where he provided extensive surgical services free of charge.
Professor Enrico was a true symbol of humanity, treating all people equally regardless of race, language, skin color, or religion. During the Kosovo War in Europe, he gave up an entire year’s salary to provide free medical services in the war zone. Likewise, during the Ethio-Eritrean War, he was among the first five Italian medical professionals who flew by helicopter to the conflict area to provide humanitarian assistance.
In Milan, Italy, he founded the medical center known as “NAGA,” where he provided free healthcare services to African immigrants and migrants from other countries, particularly those lacking legal documentation or financial means.
While many people refer to their homeland as their “fatherland” or “motherland,” Professor Bossi’s love for Ethiopia was so profound that he proudly referred to it as “the country of my son, Caleb.”
A dedicated researcher of Ethiopian history, culture, and military history, Professor Bossi authored and published more than 46 books in English and Italian.

Aethiopia la Moneta Africana
His work helped introduce Ethiopia’s role as the birthplace of coffee to the wider world. He also authored historical works documenting the end of the Era of the Princes (Zemene Mesafint).
Professor Bossi was not only a scholar, physician, military officer, and author, but also a translator and artist. At the Catholic University of Milan, he translated and published The Little Prince in 55 international languages and contributed remarkable artistic and illustrative works.
Although death unexpectedly separated him from his beloved wife, Mrs. Sara Yemane, and his son, Caleb Giorgi, the remarkable legacy he left behind will remain alive far beyond his grave.
To preserve Professor Bossi’s legacy, his wife and son are working to complete and publish two previously unpublished manuscripts. These extensive works, each consisting of approximately 500 pages, focus on Ethiopian subjects and were left unfinished by the professor.
The professor used to say that the chapter of his love for Ethiopia was revealed—and indeed began—with his wife and his child. Based on this, his family is actively working either to open a museum in Ethiopia bearing his name or to donate his works, along with various personal artifacts and items, to the Ethiopian National Museum.
It is hoped that the Ethiopian Heritage Authority will undertake initiatives to honor and commemorate Professor Colonel Enrico Piero Bossi’s life, work, and invaluable contributions to the nation and its people.
May his memory and contributions continue to inspire future generations.

ስለ ኢትዮጵያ ታሪክ፣ ባህልና ወታደራዊ ታሪክ በርካታ ምርምሮችን ያደረጉት ፕሮፌሰሩ፣ በአጠቃላይ ከ46 በላይ መጻሕፍትን በኢንግሊዘኛና በጣሊያንኛ ቋንቋዎች አሳትመዋል።
ከእነዚህም መካከል "The History of Imperial Ethiopian Army" የተሰኘውና ለኢትዮጵያ ወታደራዊ ምርምር ማዕከል ያበረከቱት መጽሐፍ፣ "ደስታስ ይርስ ኤንድ ላይፍ 1892-1937" እና "Aethiopia la moneta Africana" የሚሉት ተጠቃሽ ናቸው። የቡና አመጣጥ ከኢትዮጵያ መሆኑን ለአለም ካስተዋወቁበት ስራቸው ባሻገር የዘመነ መሳፍንትን ፍፃሜ የሚያሳይ ታሪካዊ መጽሐፍ ይጠቀሳሉ።
እኝህ ታላቅ ምሁር ስኮላር፣ ዶክተር፣ የሚሊተሪ ኦፊሰር እና ደራሲ ብቻ ሳይሆኑ፣ በሚላኖ ካቶሊክ ዩኒቨርሲቲ "ትንሹ ልዑል" የተሰኘውን የሕጻናት መጽሐፍ በ55 ዓለም አቀፍ ቋንቋዎች በመተርጎም ያሳተሙ ተርጓሚና ድንቅ የቅብ ሥራዎችን ያበረከቱ ሰዓሊም ነበሩ።
ምንም እንኳን ሞት በድንገት ከሚወዷቸው ባለቤታቸው ወይዘሮ ሳራ የማነ እና ከልጃቸው ካሌብ ጆርጂ ቢለያቸውም፣ ያኖሩት ታላቅ አሻራ ግን ከመቃብር በላይ ሁሌም ሕያው ሆኖ ይኖራል።
ባለቤታቸውና ልጃቸው የፕሮፌሰሩን ውርስና ሌጋሲ ለማስቀጠል፣ እሳቸው ሳይታተሙ የተዉትንና ስለ ኢትዮጵያ ጉዳይ በአምስት መቶ አምስት መቶ ገጾች የተቀነበቡ ሁለት አዳዲስ መጻሕፍትን ለሕትመት ለማብቃት እየተንቀሳቀሱ ይገኛሉ።
ፕሮፌሰሩ ኢትዮጵያን የመወደዳቸው ምዕራፍ የተገለጠው፤ የተጀመረው በባለቤታቸውና በልጃቸው እንደሆነ ይናገሩ ነበር። በዚህ መሠረት ቤተሰቦቻቸው በኢትዮጵያ ምድር በስማቸው ሙዚየም ለመክፈት አልያም በእርሳቸው የተሰሩ ሥራዎችን እንዲሁም ልዩ ልዩ ቁሳቁሶችን ለኢትዮጵያ ብሔራዊ ሙዚየም ለማበርከት ሰፊ እንቅስቃሴ ላይ ናቸው።
የፕሮፌሰር ኮሎኔል ኤንሪኮ ፒዬሮ ቦሲን ሕይወትና ሥራዎች ፤ ለአገርና ለሕዝብ ያበረከቱትን አስተዋጸኦ በክብር የሚዘክር ሥራ ከኢትዮጵያ ቅርስ ባለሥልጣን ይጠበቃል።

In Memory of Professor Colonel Enrico Piero Bossi
Italian scholar and human rights advocate
His wife, Mrs. Sara Yemane, and their son, Caleb Giorgi, are working to preserve and continue his legacy.
#ethiopia | The renowned Italian scholar, Professor Colonel Enrico Piero Bossi (M.D.), who dedicated many years of his life in Africa and Ethiopia through his medical profession, authorship, and humanitarian activities, helping vulnerable and disadvantaged communities, passed away at the age of 81 on June 17, 2024.
During his distinguished 45-year professional career, Professor Bossi volunteered medical services across 42 African countries. He was a specialist in Orthopedics (bone and musculoskeletal medicine) and Dermatology (skin medicine).
He made a significant contribution to securing major funding for the construction of a large hospital in Sudan built by Italian organizations.
In Ethiopia, where he served for nearly twenty years, he played a key role in establishing Adama General Hospital and served as its first director.
Additionally, he worked as an orthopedic specialist at Danu Hospital and in the Emergency Department of Abet Hospital. Every year, he traveled from Italy to Woliso Hospital, where he provided extensive surgical services free of charge.
Professor Enrico was a true symbol of humanity, treating all people equally regardless of race, language, skin color, or religion. During the Kosovo War in Europe, he gave up an entire year’s salary to provide free medical services in the war zone. Likewise, during the Ethio-Eritrean War, he was among the first five Italian medical professionals who flew by helicopter to the conflict area to provide humanitarian assistance.
In Milan, Italy, he founded the medical center known as “NAGA,” where he provided free healthcare services to African immigrants and migrants from other countries, particularly those lacking legal documentation or financial means.
While many people refer to their homeland as their “fatherland” or “motherland,” Professor Bossi’s love for Ethiopia was so profound that he proudly referred to it as “the country of my son, Caleb.”
A dedicated researcher of Ethiopian history, culture, and military history, Professor Bossi authored and published more than 46 books in English and Italian.

His work helped introduce Ethiopia’s role as the birthplace of coffee to the wider world. He also authored historical works documenting the end of the Era of the Princes (Zemene Mesafint).
Professor Bossi was not only a scholar, physician, military officer, and author, but also a translator and artist. At the Catholic University of Milan, he translated and published The Little Prince in 55 international languages and contributed remarkable artistic and illustrative works.
Although death unexpectedly separated him from his beloved wife, Mrs. Sara Yemane, and his son, Caleb Giorgi, the remarkable legacy he left behind will remain alive far beyond his grave.
To preserve Professor Bossi’s legacy, his wife and son are working to complete and publish two previously unpublished manuscripts. These extensive works, each consisting of approximately 500 pages, focus on Ethiopian subjects and were left unfinished by the professor.
The professor used to say that the chapter of his love for Ethiopia was revealed—and indeed began—with his wife and his child. Based on this, his family is actively working either to open a museum in Ethiopia bearing his name or to donate his works, along with various personal artifacts and items, to the Ethiopian National Museum.
It is hoped that the Ethiopian Heritage Authority will undertake initiatives to honor and commemorate Professor Colonel Enrico Piero Bossi’s life, work, and invaluable contributions to the nation and its people.
May his memory and contributions continue to inspire future generations.

እነርሱ የሱሪ ህዝቦች ናቸው! እነርሱ የተፈጥሮ እውነተኛ ጠባቂዎች፣ የጀግንነት መፍለቂያዎችና የጥንታዊ ባህል ህያው ምስክሮች ናቸው።
ምድራቸው በለምለም ኮረብታዎች፣ ጥቅጥቅ ባሉ ደኖች፣ ሰፋፊ ሳር ምድሮችና ውድ ማዕድናት የተከበበች እውነተኛ ገነት ናት።
የሱሪ ህዝብ ማህበራዊ መሰረት በሶስት ታላላቅ ጎሳዎች ላይ የተገነባ ነው። እያንዳንዱ ጎሳ የራሱ የሆነ ታሪካዊ የአመራር መዋቅር ያለው ሲሆን፥ ዛሬም ድረስ በአባቶች ጥበብና ስርአት ይመራል።
ከነዚያ ውስጥም የቻይ ጎሳ የሚባሉት ናቸው። ቻይ በታሪካቸው ዶሎቴ ኤከዲ እና ሃላጋሜሪ የተባሉ ሶስት ታላላቅ መሪዎች ያሏቸው ሲሆን፥ በአሁኑ ወቅት ጎሳውን በቁርጠኝነትና በጥበብ እየመራ ያለው ግንባር ቀደሙ መሪያቸው ዶሎቴ ነው።
የቲርማጋ ጎሳ (Tirmaga): በአምስት ዝነኛ መሪዎች (ቦሎጊዳንጊ ፣ ኦሌዞጊ ፣ ኦሌሲርዋ ፣ ቤባላ እና ኦሊኛሜሪ) የሚታወቁ ሲሆን፥ በአሁኑ ሰዓት የህዝቡ ዋና አለኝታና መሪ ቦሎጊዳንጊ ነው።
የባሌ ጎሳ (Ba'ale): ልክ እንደ ቲርማጋ አምስት ታዋቂ መሪዎች (ዳላላ ፣ ሚሮሊንጎ ፣ ማሆሊ፣ ሲሪያሊ እና ዎሲ) ያሏቸው ሲሆን፥ በአሁኑ ጊዜ ህዝባቸውን በጋራና በትብብር እየመሩ ያሉት ዳላላ እና ሚሮሊንጎ ናቸው።
በአሁኑ ሰዓት መላውን የሱሪ ህዝብ በአንድነት፣ በሰላምና በባህላዊ ስርአት እየመሩ ያሉ 4 ታላላቅ መሪዎች አሉ። እነርሱም፦ ዶሎቴ (ለቻይ) ፣ ቦሎጊዳንጊ (ለቲርማጋ) ፣ ዳላላ እና ሚሮሊንጎ (ለባሌ) ናቸው።
የእነርሱ ህይወት ከተፈጥሮ መሬታቸው ጋር በጥብቅ የተሳሰረ ነው። የሚተዳደሩበት የምጣኔ ሀብት ዘይቤ ሶስት ዋና ምሰሶዎች አሉት።
በአብዛኛው ከብት አርቢ (Pastoralist) ማህበረሰብ ናቸው። ከብት ለእነርሱ ተራ እንስሳ አይደለም፤ የሀብት መለኪያ፣ የማህበራዊ ክብር መግለጫ፣ የጋብቻ ትስስር ማጠንጠኛና የህልውናቸው ትልቁ ምሰሶ ፣ ስያሜም (መጠሪያም ጭምር ነው።
ከከብት እርባታው ጎን ለጎን፣ ለም ምድራቸውን በጥረት የሚያርሱ ድንቅ ገበሬዎች አሏቸው። ስነ-ምህዳሩን በጠበቀ መልኩ ማሽላ፣ በቆሎ እና የተለያዩ ሰብሎችን በስፋት ያመርታሉ።
ከእርሻና ከከብት እርባታው ባሻገር፣ የሱሪ ምድር በወርቅ ማዕድን የበለፀገች ናት። የሱሪ ወጣቶችና ማህበረሰቡ በየወንዞቻቸውና በባህላዊ ማዕድን ቦታዎች (እንደ ባሻጊ ፣ ሞጋ ፣ናሜሪ ማዕድን ያሉ) በመሄድ ወርቅ በባህላዊ መንገድ የማውጣትና የማጠብ (Gold Panning) አስደናቂ የስራ ባህል አላቸው። ይህ ማዕድን ለቤተሰቦቻቸው ተጨማሪ የገቢ ምንጭ በመሆን የኑሮ መሠረት ይሆናል።
የሱሪ ምድር በዓለም ላይ ካሉ እጅግ ማራኪና ያልተነኩ (Unexplored) የቱሪስት መዳረሻዎች አንዱ ነው። በአለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ለቱሪዝም ተመራጭ ከሆኖ 7 መዳረሻዎች አንዱ ነው።
እምቅ የቱሪዝም ሀብቶቻቸው አሏቸው የሱሪ ህዝብ ከፍታና ዝቅታ ያላቸው አረንጓዴ ኮረብታዎች፣ ታላላቅ ወንዞችና የዱር እንስሳት መሸሸጊያ የሆኑ ጥቅጥቅ ያሉ ደኖች ሰላማዊ ድባብን ይፈጥራሉ።
ንጹህ አየርና አስደናቂ የተፈጥሮ እይታን ለሚፈልግ ተጓዥ ተመራጭ ስፍራ ነው።
የሱሪ ወጣቶች የወንድነት መገለጫ የሆነው የዶንጋ (Donga) የበትር ፍልሚያ አላቸው። ወጣቶቻቸው ጀግንነታቸውን፣ ጥንካሬያቸውንና ብቃታቸውን የሚያሳዩበት ታላቅ ባህላዊ የበትር ጨዋታ ነው። ይህ ጨዋታ ስነ-ስርአትንና የሱሪን ወንድነት መገለጫ የሚያሳይ በመሆኑ በየዓመቱ የበርካታ ዓለም አቀፍ ጎብኚዎችን ቀልብ ይስባል።
ሌላኛው የሴቶቻቸው የከንፈር ሸክላ (Lip plates) የውበትና የብስለት መገለጫ ሲሆን፥ በሰውነት ላይ የሚሳሉ ውብ የተፈጥሮ ቀለሞች (Body painting) እና ባህላዊ ንቅሳቶች የእነርሱን ጥልቅ የጥበብ ስሜት ያሳያሉ።

በኢትዮጵያ ነባራዊ ሁኔታ "ህግ እና ማህበረሰብ" ያላቸው ቁርኝት ጥልቅና ውስብስብ ነው። ህግ የማህበረሰቡን እሴት የሚያንፀባርቅ መስተዋት ነው። ማህበረሰብን ማጥናትና መረዳትም ህግን ጠንቅቆ ለማወቅ ከማገዙም በላይ በርካታ አለመግባባቶችን በቀላሉ ለመፍታት መንገድ ይከፍታል። በሀገራችን ነባራዊ ሁኔታም በህግ አውጪው አካል እና በዜጎች ፍላጎት መካከል የሚስተዋሉ ክፍተቶች ይህን እውነታ ካለመረዳት የሚመጡ ናቸው። ማህበረሰቡን ያማከለ ህግ ስለሚወጣበት መንገድ ጽሁፌን እንደሚከተለው አቀርባለሁ፡፡ 👇

📌 ውይይቶች በከተማ ላይ ብቻ ማተኮራቸው፦ ፓርላማው አዋጆችን ከማፅደቁ በፊት የህዝብ አስተያየት እንዲሰጥባቸው መድረኮችን ያዘጋጃል። ሆኖም፣ እነዚህ ውይይቶች ብዙውን ጊዜ በከተማ ላይ ያተኮሩ እና ሁሉንም የህብረተሰብ ክፍል ወይም ሰፊውን የአርሶ አደርና አርብቶ አደር የህብረተሰብ ክፍሎችን ሃሳብ ያላካተቱ ሊሆኑ ይችላሉ።

በጉባኤዉ ላይ ንግግር ያደረጉት የጤና ሚኒስትር ዶ/ር መቅደስ ዳባ በቅርቡ ይፋ የሆነዉ የህብረተሰብ ጤና ዳሰሳ ጥናት ግኝት መሰረት ኢትዮጵያ የእናቶችና ህጻናት ሞትን በመቀነስ ረገድ አመርቂ ዉጤት ማስመዝገቧን በመግለጽ በቀጣይም አለም አቀፍ የጤና ተደራሽነትን በማረጋገጥ ለመጀመሪያ ደረጃ ጤና ክብካቤ ከፍተኛ ትኩረት ተሰጥቶ ጠንካራ የጤና ስርዓት እንዲፈጠር በትጋት እንደሚሰራ አጽንኦት በመስጠት ተናግረዋል።
በመላዉ ህብረተሰብ ተሳትፎና የሚመለከታቸዉ ባለድርሻ አካላት ቅንጅት እንዲሁም የጤና ባለሙያዉን ተነሳሽነትና ተጠቃሚነት በማረጋገጥ የእናቶችና ህጸናት ጤናን በቀጣይነት ማሻሻል፣ ተላላፊና ተላላፊ ያልሆኑ በሽታዎችን መከላከልና መቆጣጠር፣ በዘመናዊ ቴክኖሎጂ በመታገዝ ጥራት ያለዉ የጤና አገልግሎት ተደራሽ እንዲሆን በትኩረት እንደሚሰራ የገለጹት ሚኒስትሯ ኢትዮጵያ ቀጣይነት ያለዉ የጤና ልማት ግቦችን ለማሳካት ከዓለም ጤና ድርጅት፣ ከአፍርካ ህብረት፣ ከሀገራት፣ ከሀገር በቀልና አለም አቀፍ አጋር ድርጅቶች እንዲሁም ሁሉም ባለድርሻ አካላት ጋር በቅንጅት ለመስራት ቁርጠኛ መሆኗን ገልጸዋል።

The Ethiopian delegation led by Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba is participating in the 79th World Health Assembly being held in Geneva.
Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba, who made a speech at the assembly, stated that according to the recently released public health survey findings, Ethiopia has recorded encouraging results in reducing maternal and child mortality, and emphasized that in the future, by ensuring universal health coverage, high attention will be given to primary health care to diligently work towards creating a strong health system.
The Minister stated that focus will be given to continuously improving maternal and child health through the participation of the entire community and the coordination of relevant stakeholders, as well as by ensuring the motivation and benefit of health professionals, and preventing and controlling communicable and non-communicable diseases, and making quality health services accessible with the help of modern technology: also expressed that Ethiopia is committed to working in coordination with the World Health Organization, the African Union, countries, local and international partner organizations, as well as all stakeholders to achieve the sustainable health development goals.

በተለይም በኤክስ (X) ገጽ ላይ በስፋት የተጋራ አንድ ፎቶግራፍ፣ ማደያው ለነዳጅ እጥረቱ "ዶናልድ ትራምፕን" ተጠያቂ ሲያደርግ ይታያል። እንደ ሆርሙዝ ስትሬት ያሉ ለጃፓን እጅግ ወሳኝ የሆኑ የነዳጅ ማስተላለፊያ መስመሮች መስተጓጎል፣ በአንዳንድ አካባቢዎች የአቅርቦት እጥረትና የዋጋ ንረት እንዲከሰት ምክንያት ሆኗል።
